I've been looking around the site for a couple days. i live out in Hawaii but go to school in michigan. I drive an old beaten up accord on the islands. I'm kinda interested in rotaries at the moment and decided to do a bit of learning.

Hello, I have a 70vw bug that I am going to do a heart transplant on and put a 12a into. After months of looking into many different types of engines, I cant belive that the Rotary is not used much more. I have become a member here to see if I can glean from others that might have experiances that would be helpful in my sizeable endevor. Do not expect to see much posting from me unless it is a question or an update, as I don't want to bore you all to death.

I reside in Tacoma,WA.

Hi, I'm a little old lady, in Central California - between LA and Frisco - grape county

Got a Winning Blue Rx8 that I have put 3000 miles on and I really love it!

Got a 94 year old mother who needed to get out more and the car was just right for her to get in and out of and the back seat area can hold her walker. She put the palm tree plate holders on it that read "Team Grannies" and Crusin'.

Got banned (or, it could just be the line is down) from the RX8 club for answering biological questions (truth is not always politcally correct, but it sure can be funny!).

Some one here asked about transforming a VW into a rotar - possible but not easy - you will have to look at how long the shaft is. The rotars used for motocycles might work or You can remove the VW body, and weld rails to the old frame to make the car any length you want (I used old railroad tracks when I modified mine) - But you are still dealing with the VW body, which is cute but not designed for speed - it sticks up too much, gets rocked about by the wind, and is too narrow. I traded mine for a Fraiser Nash kit body and it added HP just because of the shape - The rotar runs really hot and you need a radiator - the VWs had a great oil cooler but it won't be enough! - Instead you might just keep the old VW engine put in 1/4 inch lifters, bigger pistons, and a header exhaust system and a low long kit body - it will only have about 75 horses but it will go a lot faster - then save your money, pawn your first born child, and get an Rx8, used but good with a warrenty make sure it is an 05 or better- and really enjoy what rotars are all about!

Hello all

I live in SoCal and have been a rotary entusiast for over 12 years. I have owned a 1988 RX-7 GTU, 1995 3rd Generation FD and have been working on a project car for over 10 years. My 73' RX-3 SP has a chrome-moly full tube chassis, Ford 9" rear end on ladder bars, and Morrison front strut suspension. Right now I have a Tremec TKO 5-speed tranny, but am looking forward to obtaining a G-Force or Liberty clutchless unit. The front motor mount begins at the front windshield line and is radically set back for weight distribution. It runs all MSD electronics (7AL-2) and has a progressive, dual-stage nitrous system. The heart of the beast is a 13B peripheral port engine built by Jeff at Rotary Power (Abel's first rotary garage). The rotor housings are by Racing Beat, the side plate are plugged with steel Devcon and all the internal work (e-shaft, stationary gears, rotors) was done in-house. I have 9.7:1 compression rotors out of a 89-91 non-turbo. I have never fired up the motor. It has been a long journey and I have been patiently waiting for the day I get to start her up. Just wanted to say hi to all aboard the rotary express.

Reply: Wow I;m impressed, with the metal body and that kind of fuel system it sounds like something out of back to the future! Please post results of first trials - watch for heat - rotars run much hotter than you might expect and you are sort of sitting on top of them - they also don't run exactly like a piston - a piston you put in more gas you get streight response - rotars you get them rolling and there is a kind of hesitation when you push your foot to the floor - you have to let it back just a little so that they get their spin up before you ask them for more, but they will keep giving and giving, so you really need a track or a real real long stretch to see what they can do because they are suddenly already there! Make sure you have good good breaks to slow the monster down - you might want to test drive some 8s just to get a little of the feel - but please post your results!!

Hi guys am new here,

Never had a rotor before but am keen to get one.

Just one question how reliable are they???

From what the other rotar heads have published, the 04 RX8s are a little quirky and had some factory problems, 05s much better, esepcially those produced late in 04 on. Most of the problems were worked out and are little and wierd like rattles or rust if you wash the breaks too much - Gas milage seems veriable according to car, driver, and traffic conditions - I am getting more than 20 per gallon, and I am letting it break in before I make any real study - but then, I drive like a little old lady! I have an 05 and it is a jewel - only problem was a mouse liked the fire wall too much - solved this by spraying firewall with deep woods off and putting a few mothballs in the front end to make the firewall taste bad - other than that - no rattles, no paint problems and the smoothest no vibration ride I have ever had in any car!

Hello forum! I just wanted to introduce myself. I bought an '06 RX-8 in May and I have been having the time of my life. The rotary community is unique and because of this uniqueness, I have been searching for a friendly forum to hang out and learn and laugh.

There are not many RX-8s in Sacramento and less of the older models so I find myself constanly looking for fellow rotary fans. I hope to be around for a while.

Not looking for obscene speed. I am looking for more power and alot more reliability. The "sizable project" I was referring to was removing the 70's body, making a complete frame that will connect everything from the front suspension to the engine including the roll cage. The body will be replaced with a 1960 body and a split window installed. The motor will be changed out to a 12A N/A in basically stock form. Does this sound challenging enough? Well I am not through yet. I am not sure if any of you are familiar with VW history so I will give a brief lesson. The first "suv" ever made was the type 87 Kommendeurwagen. It used the Kubelwagen chassis using the Schwimmwagen part-time (first gear only) four-wheel-drive system, and put a bug top on it. Only about 650+/- were made. So you guessed it, I am making mine a 4x4 (and not the easy way of dropping an axle in the front) It will look like an old Type 87 (with modern upgrades) and will be a daily driver (including going deep into the woods)

I'm fairly new to the NoPistons community... Coming from "The Other Forum". I have had a 93 Touring VR for 3 years now. I'm 21 and in the Seattle area. Currently somewhere between 300hp and 800hp... But probly closer to 300hp!
