theres a guy who's always been talkign bad about rotary engines, and he wants to run once my tranny is back up and running propperly. anyway, his car, a b16a engine, 95 civic hatch, full interior, just i b16a and intake and exhaust.

me, stripped gsl-se, 2.5 racing beat full exhaust, no cats, and some suspension mods.

anyone have any idea what the outcome could be? he's wanting to bet 20 bucks he can smoke me, and i dont really want to lose 20 bucks i just wanna run him for fun, and to shut him up about rotary engines.

Shane.Trammell 01-19-2005 11:51 AM

ill race him once my struts and idler arm get here. oh, and my shifter bushings

fcrotornut 01-19-2005 11:55 AM

alrighty shane, ive got it, we find somewhere on the loop, i get on his left you get on his right, that way he gets to watch 2 fb's leave him https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png lol

Shane.Trammell 01-19-2005 11:57 AM

i wanna be on the left

TheRiseOfTheFerret 01-19-2005 12:06 PM

I'd go ahead and race him, bet the 20. I raced a guy in a Civic HB back when I had a Neon. I beat him in a neon, and his car had quite a few mods. You should have no problem. In fact I'd raise the bet to 50.

sidewinderx7 01-19-2005 12:55 PM

you really should have no problem beating him.

TheRiseOfTheFerret 01-19-2005 01:09 PM

The next time you see this guy, tell him "Yeah I'll race you, not for 20, how's $50 sound, and see what he does. If he's still in on it, look at it on the brightside, you'll have 50 bucks. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/v2.gif

mazdadrifter 01-19-2005 01:14 PM

i've seen some fast b16's, but they've been a lot more extensivly modded than intake and exhaust.

You sure he hasn't had the block apart?

GreyGT-C 01-19-2005 01:25 PM

how much N2O is he gonna be using? That seems to be the favorite mod by them around here.

FD3S DRIFT 01-19-2005 04:38 PM

and go off the line. lol he wont hook up. What speed are you racing to?

mazdaspeed7 01-19-2005 05:53 PM

A stock B16 already makes more power than a bolt-on 1st gen. And the weights wont be that different.

Shane.Trammell 01-19-2005 11:06 PM

yeah but fwd vs rwd

TheRiseOfTheFerret 01-19-2005 11:09 PM

If it's that close of a matchup I withdraw my previous opinion. Still it's a civic. You can always just laugh at him.

Eyxom 01-19-2005 11:20 PM

Be sure it's just a B16A... Those motors are like ****** lego's. He could have more than you think.

fcrotornut 01-20-2005 12:09 AM

ive seen under the hood, just a b16a with intake and exhaust. full interior, even has a nice little system.

Dramon_Killer 01-20-2005 12:12 AM

He'll win, his car is heavier.

AHAHAH https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif , its so true, they are like legos

Jims5543 01-20-2005 07:05 AM

You'll beat him off the line and he will run you down at the top end.

Make sure you are only running a 1/4 mile or less. If its more that 1/4 mile he will catch you and pass you.

DO NOT RACE FROM A ROLL.

Make sure you have your launch down good. Youre ability to get ahead of him at the start will be the key to winning. It will be a close race though. He has more HP but is heavier and is FWD so you have a coupleof advantages at the start.

I raced a guy in a Accord with an engine swap he claimed to have 250 HP to my 160 (1990 GTU). We ran from a standing start. I ripped him a new one through 1st and 2nd gear I had easily 7-10 cars on him at the top of second. Then I shifted to 3rd............

............. and watched in frustration as he walked me down and passed me. WE covered way more than 1/4 mile though. If it was 1/4 or less I would have had him... barely.

mazdadrifter 01-20-2005 07:29 AM

or you could just give him a fender and put him off the road.

Shane.Trammell 01-20-2005 12:13 PM

well matts car has the full racing beat exhuast which should give him about 25 whp. those civics are running like 100 whp with intake and exhaust

fcrotornut 01-20-2005 12:18 PM

and i do have a nopistons.com sticker on the hatch glass, so that has take make my car like what, twice as fast as a stock fb?!

Eyxom 01-20-2005 01:33 PM

Hell yea man... You left that out of your mods. Now you'll smoke him for sure.

Well, if you lose... You'll have to kill him.

Wait!! You mean to tell me that some one swapped an engine into their civic and it is pumping out 100HP???

I do not know honda engine codes. I assumed the engine swap was getting him closer to 200 HP.

Never mind then go rape his ass.

Just dont do a rolling race. Do it from a stop so you can totally rape him.

Shane.Trammell 01-20-2005 02:05 PM

i dont know anything about the codes either, but im pretty sure the b16a is the stock engine. i saw a dyno online of one with intake and exhaust and it was getting about 100 whp

fcrotornut 01-20-2005 02:15 PM

yeah i always thought a b16a was a stock jdm civic engine..... with just intake and exhasut, i think i could take him lol, only one way to find out i guess.

mazdaspeed7 01-20-2005 07:32 PM

A bone stock B16a puts around 145 to the wheels. With exhaust and intake, he will be making 155-165 at the wheels. At that power level, traction wont be a big problem if he has decent to good tires.

Your FB with full exhaust is probably making 100-110 at the wheels.

The curb weight on the hatch is 2400 lbs stock. A B16 swap wont really add any meaningful amount of weight, so you might have a 200 lb advantage.

I say given equal drivers, youre goign to be quite familiar with some civic taillights.

BlownSE 01-21-2005 12:35 AM

b16's and all hondas are OverRated!!! I use to have a 95 integra ls w/a type R head/and it was hella weak.....i didnt have a vtec ECU only RPM switch....but that **** was gay....17.5 1/4 mile....and my last honda was a 95 civic coupe w/a crv B20 motor and it was also gay!I think my stock D16 was quicker.....GO 4 IT ....Launch ur **** good And raise the bet to $100

drunkin_idiot 01-21-2005 07:10 PM

Well the b16 's are rated at 160hp at the fly wheel and with intake and exhaust he might have 165-170, so I dont know what that is to the wheels. i think its more than an FB.

Why dont you dyno it and find out?

In perfect running condition, they make around 120 at the wheels.

TheRiseOfTheFerret 01-22-2005 08:10 PM

where can I get it dynoed at, and how much does it cost??

wherever theres a dyno and however much they charge

jwilsonTT 01-23-2005 12:03 AM

Dont race him from a roll. Unless he has some really good tires, he will spin his ass off and you will have no problem until he hits 3rd gear. I say this only b/c my friend has a GS-R in a EG hatch w/a couple of bolt ons and he spins a little into 3rd gear with a shitty clutch. Betting or not, good luck and have fun.

fcrotornut 01-23-2005 12:54 AM

well thanks to transmission problems, its going to wait, quite a long time.

pepperhead 01-23-2005 12:53 PM

my friend has a 1993 with a b16 in it w/ skunk2 intake manifold cold air intake exhaust i think a fuel rail and it runs 14 flat i have a stock(at the time) 87t2 and he took me 1st 2nd and the top of 2nd into 3rd i smoked him. and there are bubble civics around here runnin 10's on street tires so civics aren't as slow as you think

Lionheart240 01-23-2005 06:52 PM

How about you just buy my FC from me and race him in it?

Then you can say "Sure, I'll bet you $100...and give you a 5 second head start too. See you in 3rd gear."

:]

Who dyno's? Car X??? I dunno, I need to get it done though. That way when I get done working on it I can dyno it again, and see how muvh the work paid off.

I don't know what you did to your car to make it run a 17.5... But obviously something wasn't right.

Stock LS-VTEC w/ intake and exhaust in an EG or EK hatch will run a 13.1 with good tires... My friend has one, and he has the time slip to prove it.

With some nice cams, lightweight flywheel, upgraded clutch, vtec controller, and an ecu added to the intake, exhaust, and tires, it'll easily run low 12's.

Oh yea, and it still gets like 25 miles to the gallon.

Eyxom 01-26-2005 12:25 AM

B16A is a pretty generic motor for Honda. They come in many of their cars, but here are the most common:

B16A JDM 1992-1995 Civic SiR

B16A JDM 1990-1993 Integra Rsi/Xsi

B16A JDM 1992-1997 CRX del Sol SiR

B16A JDM 1996-2000 Civic SiR

B16A JDM 1992-1997 CRX del Sol SiR

B16A3 USDM 1994-1997 del Sol DOHC VTEC

B16A2 USDM 1999-2000 Civic Si

Sorry for all the useless information, but I happen to be a fan of Honda. They make good cars... I hate rice... But I can appreciate a well built and reliable car.

Shane.Trammell 01-26-2005 11:28 AM

im the same way, i can respect hondas for what they are, and get kinda excited when i see one thats still fwd (not the s2k of course) and fast. i still hate rice though
