Well, the day came for me to race against my buddy's stock 2003 911 turbo with X50 package(450 flywheel HP). I wanted to give it a go before I went beyond the FD's stock 10 psi boost or adding more modifications beyond my DP, CB, Power FC and a few flow enhancements. We tested a variety of speed punches and the FD seems to hang in there OK and even pull a bit at times when below 60 mph as long as the intake temps stay lower. From 60 mph on up the 911 turbo X50 pulls ahead. The faster you go, the harder it pulls away from my FD. I should add that my buddy had his 100lb ish wife with him also, so that was to my advantage.

My buddy has also now had a chance to race a couple normal 911 turbos with his 911 turbo X50. The 911 turbo X50 notably takes out the normal 911 turbo.

thats pretty cool considering your car is 10 years older and much much cheaper.

nice to know it can hang with one of todays supercars.

Actually I was with him when he got it new. The 2003 911 turbo X50 was $143,000 before tax. There is no doubt that it's one of the finest sports cars on the road today for those with the budget to get one.

I had previously raced one 911 turbo and won three times from rolling punches. It's now very apparent that particular 911 turbo did not have the X50 package as that he was unable to keep up with my FD from any speed.

The X50 package is a Porsche factory engine performance upgrade which consists of larger turbos, larger intercoolers and raising the boost from .8 bar to .9 bar. The list price for the option is about $18,000. Porsche advertises about a half second acceleration improvement from 0-60 mph with the upgrade.

From an outward view of the 911 turbo the base engine 911 turbo looks identical to the 911 turbo X50. The 911 turbo of either type with the automatic transmission(Triptronic) is about 100 lbs heavier than the manual.

Other non-factory aftermarket 911 turbo packages exist which have been proven to be quite reliable. Here in Arizona one company does a variety of staged packages. Here's a link.

Basically it's the same stuff, just different car..... boost, turbos, intercoolers, injectors.....bla, bla, bla
