I had previously raced one 911 turbo and won three times from rolling punches. It's now very apparent that particular 911 turbo did not have the X50 package as that he was unable to keep up with my FD from any speed.
The X50 package is a Porsche factory engine performance upgrade which consists of larger turbos, larger intercoolers and raising the boost from .8 bar to .9 bar. The list price for the option is about $18,000. Porsche advertises about a half second acceleration improvement from 0-60 mph with the upgrade.
From an outward view of the 911 turbo the base engine 911 turbo looks identical to the 911 turbo X50. The 911 turbo of either type with the automatic transmission(Triptronic) is about 100 lbs heavier than the manual.
Other non-factory aftermarket 911 turbo packages exist which have been proven to be quite reliable. Here in Arizona one company does a variety of staged packages. Here's a link.

Basically it's the same stuff, just different car..... boost, turbos, intercoolers, injectors.....bla, bla, bla

A friend of mine has an '03 911 turbo and in any kind of straight line it blows me away. We just hit the drag strip a couple weeks ago and his first time ever to drag race a car he hit 13.05. Second run was 12.8 and magazines have it at about 11.9. I can hang better from a roll but he still takes me out pretty quickly. That is a 6-speed turbo, no X50. If you were able to hang with or beat a 911 turbo, is there a chance it was an automatic? Or actually, how stock are you?
That Evolution Motorsports place is pretty cool. I went down there with my friend one day at lunch and talked to the guys there. Some of what they drive is amazing! I want a job at a performance shop that pays me enough to drive an '02 911 turbo and a heavily modifyed 7-series BMW. I dont think anybody working there drove anything as old or cheap as my FD, but I am sure my FD could take most of them
Oh yeah, and Dumbrotorkid, in the end the guy with a 911 is driving a very nice Porsche while we are still driving an old Mazda, nothing against my FD, I still love it.

it doesnt matter one bit if it were an automatic, were so used to the slushboxes found in everyday cars but those are strong transmissions and in some cases the tiptronic sportscars can shift faster than a stick. remember its a porsche, not a honda

Here are the specs for the 911 turbo. The convertible is heavier by about another 150 lbs and slower yet. What's ironic is the convertible, manual 911 turbo has similar acceleration to that of a stock FD.

Actually I was with him when he got it new. The 2003 911 turbo X50 was $143,000 before tax. There is no doubt that it's one of the finest sports cars on the road today for those with the budget to get one.
