Grand Nationals were freaks of nature, I would venture to say that its one of the first cars to show people a 231 cubic inch Turbo 6 cylinder could make ALOT of power. Dont forget the aniversary edition Trans Am with the same motor, the Syclone, and the Typhoon, and the GNX. Turbo magazine was born when people started to realize the potential of those cars, the magazine was FILLED with stories and mods for them. Fast Japenese cars were around, but it was rare to see a sub 12 second japenese car back then. The big duel used to be Gene Deputy and Kenny Dutweiler, Deputy running a twin turbo mustang, and Dutweiler with his Grand National, both were in the 6 second 1/4 mile last I remember.

My neighbor has a GN. I remember he was thinking of selling it last year. It runs really well.

I would love to have a typhoon or a cyclone. I have always thought those trucks were cool. Curious enough, what powers the little chevy trucks with all the Xtreme body work?

My question is: Why did GM stop making cars like that? Did it all of a sudden become a good idea to stop being cool? Those Syclone trucks were amazing. I remember a Car & Driver article comparing one with a Ferrari 318 or something. Incredible. h34r:

< Because the american people didnt want to buy them. Same could be said for the 300ZX, RX-7, 3000 GT, you get the idea. Now that the same ******** are bored of thier extremely boring SUV's, they are starting to make better cars. We are on the verge of some VERY cool cars coming out, and the best thing is there are a **** load of them in the $20,000-$30,000 range, and the aftermarket companies cater to them almost before the car comes out.

Yep looks like the hp wars are back... in a slightly different way....

SRT4 Neon

WRX

Lancer (evo i think is coming)

SRT10 dodge pickup 8.3 V-10!

Ford Mustang Cobra 4.6 Supercharged

RX8

GT40

Z06 horsepower bumped to 405

Hell even Nissan Altima's are pushing 240hp.....

Very nice!!!

Could be fun!

But all of us with older cars are going to start having some problems...

Hell I am only at 225hp! Ouch!

though I beat a 240hp 3.5 V6 altima... oh well

Now if only the Lancer came to this country with more then a body package, and had the *** kickin all wheel drive turbocharged package it does overseas, then it would be something.

In Jan. 03 we get the good Lancer (the EVO VII). Mitsubishi said it will have over 250 hp. The EVO VII in Japan is 276 hp stock, from a 2.0 liter. Wanna know the best part? Mitsubishi says the EVO will have a price tag of less than $30k.

Yep it is coming... specs on the old one say 1/4 mile 13.2 though it does start laying down a bit at higher speeds.... But still 13.2 is pretty quick for 4 doors!
