Someone had said before, why would you take a quote for 2500usd and think you would get a complete runner for that price?

A quote is just that, it's not a bill or a not to exceeed contract, it's a ballpark number to get business in the door.

Anyone who has internet access can research their purchase before hand and guage what the total bill will cost, and with site's like this one, whom have knowledgeable ppl who care to help and have no reason to lie to you, there should be little or no doubt how much one would have to spend for what they want out of a product.

Posts like this one shouldn't even exsist, especially with all the readily available information at one's fingertips, I mean for christ's sake, an in and out of the engine at a certified shop will run in the 750usd area alone, if they are a good shop they will flush the cooling sysem(s) (water and oil) , inspect the clutch/pressure plate, probably suggest to replace it/them and have the flywheel re-surfaced while the engine is out, at this point the motor hasn't been touched and the 2500usd quote is about shot.

Use your head for something more than a hat rack.

If the front plate was bad and I find this to be odd, a new plate is not going to cost 1000 or more. What's it made of diamond?

whoa there.......... a quote of 2500 is not a ballpark figure close to the final cost.

stop accusing the guy of being clueless..... the bottom line is he went into a shop which he, at the time, thought was very reputable and reliable. things should have never escalated to the point where its at right now if proper procedures by the shop were taken. so are you saying that the shop that gave the quote was assuming that the client was clueless as you are trying to make him out to be?

2500? The quote could have been for 2 dollars at that point, that should have been the first red flag, the shop baited him in with a low number knowing full well it couldn't be done for that price.

Unethical, Yes. It would apper the shop saw this guy coming from miles away.

3900 was a more realistic number for the work as directed, assuming the core was in decent shape, which sounds like just the opposite, so the total cost continues to swell. Then, to compond and already unreasonable situation, another lump of cash is blown to remove the car, which, will have to be spent AGAIN to get the car to another shop to have the same job done correctly.

So spend TWICE the amount of the originally low then increased number plus the towing and then tack on a few more benji's because no one likes burping someone else's baby, I.E fixing someone else's **** up, and yes ladies and gentelman you too can have a rebuilt, little bit better than stock, engine installed in your FD for the low everyday cost of 7 to 8000 dollars, operators are standing by...

You said clueless, not me, but it would seem all of this could be avoided, with all the information at our fingertips.

There is no substitute for experience
