Lol, $65/hr...very normal in my area for IT guys.
BTW, I'm sure you probably make $65/hr if you have your own shop, but a normal mechanic makes nothing near that. $65/hr is a standard shop fee... that money does not go straight to the mechanic. I've been a mechanic too, and the money isn't that good. The only guys I know that make over $65/hr are BMW head techs, Audi and the guys over here at the Ferrari shop...
If I have to pick $65/hr working on a car, busting my knuckles all day fixing other people's problems with a shitty-to-no investment plan, 401k, or other benefits over $65/hr to sit at a desk, spend my money on my cars installing parts for me, retiring w/ a load of bank, and having great benefits for me and my family... I pick the second option. Sorry.
Not trying to bust *****, I've been on both sides of this spectrum..and my opinion is to stay w/ computers....if you've got it good working on cars, that's awesome...but your one of few if you look at the large picture.

Never said you particularly worked on cars all day... but that's good. IT jobs change in rate greatly depending on your area. Your referring to IT as help desk guys too, IT can be a lot of different positions. IT Directors make over $175K in my area....

And a good manager at Mickey-D's can pull that down. But the average IT gopher tech doesnt do that, at least in Engineering Companies
