Who Knows About Insect Bites?

Yesterday evening I was bit by something on top of my foot, I don't know what. The top of my foot has swollen, just enough that it hurt to put shoes on (I wore sandals into the office today). Then entire top of my foot is still swollen, 10 hours later. Swollen just enough that when I remove my sandal, there are impressions in my foot where the straps were. There's just a small red dot where the bite was, and it hurts like hell.

So when should I worry (I'm starting to)? I'm not allergic to anything that I know of, and I usually hardly react at all to insect bites.

yes, it is possibly a spider bite. Spider poison is narcrestic: it eats flesh. A public service message from BANZAI

Go to the doctor. In the worst case scenerio you could get a benadryl shot and it will subside faster.

I'll give him a call, might have to go to Patient's First. I've been using the spray-on benadryl, didn't seem to really do anything.

well, spider bites, they hurt, and they will usually form a ring, and you should see the doctor if it gets worse, or doesnt clear up in 2-3 days. they should give you a topical ointment and probably some pills. oh, and the bite might seep... bleh

but for generic bites, you should have your pharmacist order you "aromatic ammonia spirits" they are also called smelling salts, its a liquid and you can apply it immediately to a bite or small wound, and it will help.

there is a cream ointment you can pick up at walmart called "chiggerex" that will also help with insect bites, ticks etc.

but yea, if you think it is a spider bite, and it does not clear up in afew days, you need to see a doctor. i forgot to see your location, but solantic is a good place to go for that, you can walk right in, and they will let you know, and if they cant really help you, no charge, which is always nice.

but ice will help with the swelling, and if you have anything that rubs against the affected area, that will make the itching, and swelling worse.

best of luck though, i hope i helped you out atleast a little.

if it starts getting big then it could be a brown recluse bite. they swell up and make a big chunk of skin fall off it is not ****.

The reason I was worried is that I don't normally react to bites. There was hardly a mark where the bite was, but my whole foot swelled up. The swelling eventually went down some time last night. Doc said if it was flesh-eating, my skin wouldn't been gone by then, and if I was going to go into shock, it would've already happened.

Other than that, doc said elevate it, take benadryl, blah blah blah. I'm good, as long as I can still hit the gas pedal for this weekend.
