Hey guys I got a friend with a video card problem. He has a a7n8x-x Asus mobo, amd 2800 processor. HE got an Apollo Nvidia Geforce 6800. HE can play games with it just fine everything else runs well, but when he plays videos, such as mpegs, the quality is horrible, fuzzy, hazy and the colors are all messed up. Anybody have any ideas as to what he can do? He installed the software and even updated the drivers, also reseated the video card. Even ran virus scanners and any and all viruses have been taken care of. Only when he plays media player and trys to view movies in the browser, or dvds through power dvd. Any ideas fellas???

Rollback the driver to the original one that came with the card, most likely on the CD. I bought an Nvidia Geforce 5200FX card, and after updating my drivers, video would either be a flat pink or flat green window. Rolling back the driver fixed the problem. I'd check the apollo website and see if it's a known issue for that card; it was with mine (mine was also a resold card, it was rebadged through another company but was indeed an Nvidia product)

yeah this apollo is an nvidia product.

however, it did this with the drivers off the cd, and even with the updated ones.

CODECS are the ghey but secs version for the cpu.

Actually, its the way that the computer disects the mpeg file format into a readible form then translates it to the actual monitor for viewing. Also allows to keep the file size down.

It's not just for mpeg files though, its for anything.

For latest codecs make sure to have installed:

latest version of quicktime (contains most relevant MPEG stuff, MP3 and AAC as bonus)

(quicktime 7 comes with itunes. If you don't want iTunes version 6.0.5.something will be newest you can get)

latest version of video card driver (to be able to read teh stuff from quicktime)

eventually and depending on use lazyman's guide to OGG/OGM offers additional codec software for XVid and DivX.

Eventually think about updating direct X to version 9.0c to be on safe side of sorry.
