But I am just getting over a cold and when you feel like **** it is so nice to have girl scout cookies. Oopsie. Now that i am getting better back to the strick only good food rule!

Well, I'm kinda happy, kinda sad.. I got a scale, I weigh 223.2 (I was 232.5 at Scott's house) but I bought one of those fancy schmancy body fat measuring scales and it read 24%. So according to the manual, that classifies me as 'overfat'. Funny, I was ok with being 'overweight', but 'overfat' sounds worse!

Meh. I guess it's time to readjust my goal and be down to 215, or 21% by the end of the month.

It's all in your head.....The FAT, that is!

Good luck to you, man. I'm an enviable 6'-0", 185. I'm still trying to shed an extra pound or two I put on around Christmas. I need to get out and exercise this spring. Once I get in shape, I have a hard time eating enough to maintain my weight. Work out, ride the bike, play tennis, whatever. You may not lose much weight, but you will burn fat and replace it with muscle and feel better.

Basically, you WILL NOT lose weight by exercising. 1 hour of vigorous exercise = 300 calories burned = 1 mars bar.

I dunno about that - since the end of last summer I have been steadily losing weight (nearly 1.5 stone (20lbs I think) at this stage), and the only noticeable thing I am doing different is training.

I drink about a 12 pack of beer a day... i'm just ate 2 of the biggest, juiciest cheeseburgers i've ever seen with a large order of cheese fries. Last time i excercised was taking an army Pt test about 1 1/2 years ago and probably 4 years before that.

I'm 6'1" and about 165lbs.... and that box of hostess cakes is starting to look really good right about now....

i love my high metabolism...

Drinks are KEY! Even a glass of OJ is 100 cals or more! I have a glass of hot herbal tea (no sugar, no milk) whenever I start to get hungry. It helps kill the hunger pangs, and has no cals. Green tea even blocks fat absorbtion in your intestine, though it makes your breath smell like ****.

If you are exercising, and have not changed your diet at all, then yes, you will lose weight, as your calories burned will go up, but like I said, for most people the temptation is to follow a workout with a heavy meal, which negates the benefits of the workout.

The gist of the hackers diet is this: You burn so many calories in a day, say 2500 on average. One pound of fat contains 3500 calories of energy. You take in 3500 more calories than you need, you gain a pound of fat. You take in 3500 less than you burn, you lose a pound of fat.

It's that simple. The rest of the reading just teaches you (using excel or your palm pilot, for the UberNerd), how to track your weight to know when you are losing fat, and when it's just a change of water or "solids" levels.

As an aside, just 10 extra calories per day, and you will gain 1 lb in a year. No big deal between say 20 and 25, but try turning 45 and trying to lose that extra 25lbs kicking around <fatbastard>"YER BELL-AY" "GET OFF MAH BELL-AY"</fatbastard>

Besides working off calories, running and lifting also increase your metabolism, so you burn more off while you're posting on NP than you would have.

Also, if you lift, having more muscle mass makes you burn more calories all day too.
