Why do you want a digi camcorder if you will be shooting mostly stills? When you combine things like this (digital and stills) something suffers or they couldn't price it so low. Inthis instance, the still shots will suffer in quality because this item is mainly used for video. For example, it only has two sizes for the photos.

What I would do, if she was going to mainly shoot still photos is buy a nice digital camera. Not a digi cam corder but a nice digital camera. You can get one that will also shoot video. Now this video is only about 10-13 seconds and the resolution is not great because the resources for the camera go to still shooting but this will give her something to do both and see if she really will shoot a lot of video. She can take some excellent photos though and that is what you said you were mainly going to use it for.

If you were going to use it mainly for video and not many still shots, than I would say the exact opposite. Get the proper device intended for what you are going to do and you will be much happier.

finally some good advice. thanks

what Gazellis said is right on the money.. as soon as I clicked the link.. i though.. why a digi camcorder.. ? the videos that most digital cameras take are well enough to capture the moment.. and this leaves you with a camera that was made to take great stills..

well if this thing takes great stills at 640x480 that is definitely big enough, most of the pictures that she prints out will be 4x6 so resizing from 640x480 will not harm the quality even if the MPs are low, the option to go up to 1026x768 is even better.

this camera has a lot of options for stills so it is focused on stills as well as video, in the menu it has about 8 different options for shutter speeds, the quickest is 1/4000th of a second. i wonder if we could take it back if she gets it and doesnt like it, ill bet we could...

dude, i dont care about people's opinions of best buy. everything i have ever bought fromt them has been at a great price and i have had no problems. i knew that this thread wouldnt make it without this showing up... remember that rant a while back about best buy?

how do you explain this camera's price at best buy being $349.99 when the msrp is 599.99 and all of the other sources at which ive seen it online have had it priced at at least $400. i didnt ask about opinions on best buy, i asked about the camera, so if you dont have a valid, educated opinion please dont clutter my legitimate thread, thanks.

i bought my fiance a 4 megapixel fuji camera. it was on the cheaper end of the price spectrum, but I chose that one only because i know the quality of pics is good. my old roomate from college had a 3.0 megapixel fuji, and the quality well surpassed sony and most of the other ones we compared the pics too

the funny thing is that he always used the camera on the lowest setting to conserve memory.

if your going to be printing them out, you pretty much want the highest resolution you can find. and if its at least 5 mp it will look better than a normal film print.

i wish i could find a mp rating on this one, one of the sites i saw it on said .68 mp, but only one of the sites said that. it said that the video is tv broadcast quality so the stills seem like they would be pretty good.
