my gf is wanting a digi cam and we saw this one at best buy and it looked great in the store. she likes that it will do stills or video but will most likely use it more for stills than video. so what do you guys think?:

nikon 5200 is damn good 5 megapixel, real easy to use, takes good pics, and is 100 less than that. it takes video or stills but is more geard twords stills. video is good quality still but it is more of a stills camera. look it up.

Why do you want a digi camcorder if you will be shooting mostly stills? When you combine things like this (digital and stills) something suffers or they couldn't price it so low. Inthis instance, the still shots will suffer in quality because this item is mainly used for video. For example, it only has two sizes for the photos.
What I would do, if she was going to mainly shoot still photos is buy a nice digital camera. Not a digi cam corder but a nice digital camera. You can get one that will also shoot video. Now this video is only about 10-13 seconds and the resolution is not great because the resources for the camera go to still shooting but this will give her something to do both and see if she really will shoot a lot of video. She can take some excellent photos though and that is what you said you were mainly going to use it for.
If you were going to use it mainly for video and not many still shots, than I would say the exact opposite. Get the proper device intended for what you are going to do and you will be much happier.
