Here is another one I found when I got tired of losing my own money. I have not used it in a while it might have changed but it was fun Virtual Stock Market

94 you bought Corning (GLW) at a great time. I think we will see it the high teens by Q2 04'. This is the best time to buy stocks (barring the unforseen and tragic) the DOW JIA closed at 10450. the other day...

94touring- Wow, that LOOK stock looks very interesting! Spiked to 70 a few years back and now it's at 1.59! And TSCC at 1.22 and spiked to a high of 40 a few years back. That would be a hell of a return!

What makes you watch these two companies?

twstdmtl- what's the fun in a virtual market? Can't make any money that way! I suppose it's a good learning experience.

I lost a nice piece of my *** right before Sept 11 01' so this became very fun without the risk

It made me a better stock researcher. You still have to make wise stock pics (unless you want to look like putz) and you can win cash fo shizzle if you enter some of the contests. They used to give away cool gifts to the best portfolios too.

I caught word of them a while back and then started looking at their history.

sorry to bring up old threads but i am also looking to invest a couple grand into some stocks, mutual funds whatever it may be.

so far from what i have read, for something long term i like those I Bonds. Just as a safe stash like was mentioned.

I would like to play around with stocks a bit though.

I noticed a couple stocks were mentioned...... anybody have any other helpful info?
I and EE bonds are a low risk/low yield addition to portfolios. Maybe it is feeling old. I like to have some safe money.

But just a note for I bonds, the way things are looking now they are longer term now more than ever (they are not yielding as high as they were 12 months ago). Our inflation in the U.S. is so low right now mainly because of China. They are flooding the market with inexpensive consumer goods. Basically inflation is the consumer dollar not going as far as it did last month last year whatever. But now the dollar is going far. China is forcing other countries to tighten their belt to stay competitive.

The only debt I have is my house so I'm starting to wonder if I should pay down the loan or put more in the market. I guess it's just a matter of what will have a better return I just refinanced last year so maybe the house is the better way to go so I can pay down some of that principal and not have to pay as much interest? Anyone have any input??

thats up to you, you get a tax write off for the interest of the loan so if you're getting a tax break it might be better to have the loan. if you are paying principal then you get no tax break so to loan doesnt give you any benifits....

dad will also look for things like qwest laying off workers and then giving the board a raise and new jets......

Good advice guys.

What do you think of GM right now, I put in a buy order for 46 a few weeks back and checked it out today and it was up to 53.40! Is it still worth it? I guess I shoudl have got it at market. I've herd it's expected to hit 60.

Yeah but realize if you buy something at 50, you're gona need to put in a lot of money to make anything if it goes to 60. If you bought 10k at 50, you would only make 2k if it went to 60.

Note: if Corning goes to 60 i'll be over 75k.
