Usually I am pretty passive, and try not to take advantage of situations - but I have to encourage you to full-out milk it and get every penny you can. It is so rare that insurance companies actually offer out a decent (if any) amount of money, and so quickly. Work it before they change their minds!

when I got in an accident with my Nissan I took it to a body shop that is known for ripping people off. they usually specialize in old car restoration. Got a quote for $1400 and found a little shop that did the work for $600, all I needed was front bumper, right fender and headlight.
So I'd say milk the hell out of them. if you can do the work yourself go for it. take the money and get what you want (like your header and exhaust system)

A resto shop would be your best bet. Any metal work will be hand mandrel bent into shape and the bumper will be brand-new mazda piece...not too mention the paint would be perfectly matched to the fade of the rest of the car.
You don't actually get any money, so I think a header and new engine might be out of the question.

don 't know about there, but the insurance company sent me a check to pay for the damages.
I was rear-ended by a bonneville btw, in the 7. I was actually flamed on RX-7 club saying that I shouldn't have revved my engine or some ****. He was following dangerously close to me, he was the one that started **** with my passenger, and he was the one that blew a red light and hit my car because he was going TOO FAST.
Oh and btw, he pleaded GUILTY to the offense, he had to pay a certain amount to the government and got 6 points taken off his license. Yep, it was aaaalll my fault.
