no need to take each and every example literally, I just consider that even the simplest older machines are capable of way more then what 99% of the people need them for

Really? There's no convincing you so I am not going to argue with you, it really doesn't matter I could care less what you use or anyone else uses for a system as long as I don't have to support it. You seem to labor under the impression that EVERYONE here well 99% of the people here only browse the internet with their computer and I think you would find that to be incorrect. There are literally TONS of people here that use their system for things that a "simple older machine" cannot run. Hell 75% of the systems out there couldn't run vista when it came out, they couldn't get enough ram onboard to run it. There are several people running Photoshop which won't run on your simple machine, a great deal of the people here play games and they in fact won't run on your older simple machine. As baldy mentioned he does the video editing... guess what it won't run on an low spec'd machine either. Ok, next... let's talk website creation, look into Dreamweaver specs, i myself use it and several others here do. That's just people who do image editing, video editing, website authoring and gaming, by your estimation only 1% of PC users do those things???? Seriously??? I don't want to be accused of taking every example literally so I apologize if this has become redundant. But for the record I am not arguing for mac or PC in this post, I am arguing the fact that many people do many more things then just browsing the internet.

Amy runs multiple applications all day, she has the hottest pc in her office and it barely makes it happen, multiple copies of quickbooks, word, outlook, several excel spreadsheets, etc... computer has a habit of locking up and losing data because she pushes the limit, oh and she rarely browses the internet on that PC.

Next up AutoCad, you seen the specs on what it takes to run cad? I bet you there are several people here who use it, hell even my HP dv8000 wouldn't run cad, ran like dog ****.

Hell some of the older simpler machines can't even play DVD's without over heating, especially notebooks I wonder if there is anyone here who watches DVD's on their notebooks.

I don't believe it's even remotely close to 99% of the people that only browse the internet on their computer, hell even my mother in law needs a decent spec'd system to run her embroidery program.

I'll just agree to disagree, I replaced both of our systems with mac's and I will NEVER again own a PC. Amy loves her air, it's light easy to take to work (which she now does and never did with her hp). mac OSX, unix and linux imho are so superior to windoze that they don't even warrant a comparison. they are stable, secure and really the only defining difference is support and usability. I have unix background, all three are relatively the same, if you are comfortable with computers and DON'T need support there are many good Linux flavours on the market, if you are like many people and want the support, don't want to hassle with making sure your peripherals are supported, etc, etc.... then the Mac with OSX is a clear winner. Top notch support, amazing GUI, pretty much piece of hardware you purchase is supported and the factory hardware is very good.

I could go on and on about the shortfalls of windoze, but I will refrain and use this opportunity to say where I feel teh others shine.

Unix/Linux

-Secure

-Fast

-Free

-Stable

Mac Osx

-Secure

-Fast

-Stable

-Great Support

-Amazing User Interface

-Lots of stuff available

-Great Programs Included For Free

As far as I am concerned using windows is like using two rocks to start a fire, it will work thats a fact, but every since the lighter was invented it's just a whole lot of extra work and headache

I agree, that's why I bought this computer. I've owned several computers in the last 10 years. I don't do anything "risky", I don't look at **** or download music. My Sony desktop, I had to re-format 4 or 5 times, swapped out the hard drive twice (lost lots of important info throughout the process). My Dell laptop I've had to reformat twice, and the power input broke. You can see why I would want to try something different, maybe the more expensive stuff is worth the money. I figured if I want it to last more than 5 years without breaking/crashing, I should invest more money in it.

I bet you in 5 years you buy a new Mac anyhow because thats just what we like to do.

I said when this all started, if you REALLY use your computer then the choice is simple, if your running so many programs like Amy is running thats not a good comparison to the casual user who might use photoshop now and then to touch up thier family photos and crop them, or to burn some MP3 cds.

Im upgrading the standalone in my car, I feel the current version runs the car just fine, but the guy doing the tuning tells me it will run better and smoother with the new version, do I feel I am somewhat wasting my money? Sure do!

I'll be happy as hell if my mac is going strong in 5 years, most i was getting out of the hp's was in the 2 to 3 range before they started falling apart, the last one started falling apart shy of the two year mark and i HATE getting a new computer, its a pain in the ***.

That, and a new car, have been the two most aggravating things I've had the displeasure of purchasing.
