I've barely used the thing, haha. Edna put most of the miles on it so far.

However, what I do know is that I CAN edit video (tried it and confirmed, made a sample vid of my dog sneezing mixed with some Gorillaz song)! Without spending $600 on some video editing software! I'm so excited about that.

Yea I bought a highspeed cable for mine, but the editing software is very easy to use. you'll have to bang out some tunes for us on the axe too!

Baldy not sure exactly which one you got, but if you got one with firewire use the firewire cable for video editing it's 10x faster then usb. my macbook pro has FW800, can downloa a whole vid from my cam to my laptop in no time compared to using a usb cable.

I agree with phins on safari 4 beta, some awesome things. My favorite is the simplest, "top sites" page when you load it up.

As for GarageBand, if you're into music as far as making it, you'll love it. my girlfriend plugs here electric geeeetar right into the USB and she can make and edit the music like a real synthesizer. they also have music lessons you can download.

Then the updates, most are little things, no real OS updates. Most are to expand compatibility with certain file formats and such. Not many "SUPER SECURITY RISK MUST UPDATE BEFORE EVEN LOOKING AT THE INTRAWEB" kind of stuff lol. And like phins said each download is tiny compared to the windows updates....only updates are somewhat big are itunes updates, they make you redownload the whole program which is somewhat stupid but helps to make sure everything functions perfectly when you go to use it.

and on a side note, a recent osx update did have a small bug in it, what did apple do? within hours pulled the update, fixed it, re-released it and bam most people didnt even notice except those that wound up re-downloading the update. what would ms have done? wait until a "majority of users submitted compalints" then take about 3 months to fix it and another 3 to figure out a catchy name for it and some bloated features to add while they could and re-release it.

rob, dont be scared of the apple, for when they take over the worl.....wait shhh nevermind.

I just found it amusing thats all, spent all that money getting direct from apple and it had to be updated.

I also remember a thread like last year where he was talking about selling his house and moving into a smaller house so his bills would be less, so yeah my advice was more financial then anything.

its like 2 years ago I talk a guy into putting a whole re-power package into his 20 year old boat, I sell him on the fact that everything

will be coming from Mercury Marine, all new, not rebuilt, down to the wiring harness, all warrantied. Transom plate, everything.

He takes the boat out with his 2 kids and breaks down and had to be towed back in, lol

turned out to be some metal shavings in the trim pump so he could not trim the drive back down after he trimmed it all the way up to look at his propeller- a simple problem- but a problem.

THEY ALL HAVE PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i thought he bought it from macmall..... Yea, however the nice part about getting it from one place like mercury is that you know who to bitch at it. I know you stand behind your work, but that isn't always the case some of these dirtbags down here would charge you to put the replacement parts on and then charge mercury.

I had this issue when I had rebuilt motor done, i took it to a machine shop to have the block hot tanked and the works, they put an extra oil plug in a channel that should have one, ate the ******* crank. Kicked myself as I could have bought a longblock for a few bucks more (which is what i did) and if that had happened they would have warranteed it.

is that not buying direct?

again I dont care that the apple is better, I gave my advice because I felt there was better things to spend his money on, or to put himself into debt with then a computer. I used to buy certain things and always have to have every single option, or load it to the max, now I buy what I need and have money for other things, and buy them without putting myself into debt.

buying something more permenent, long term- go large and go best.

buying a new front door for your house- get the best door you can afford because you probably wont change it for 20 years, buying a television for your livingroom get something big and new- but buying a televison for a spare room that might get watched 3 times a year- buy something that will get you by.

when it came time to get my wife a new laptop- I got her a basic one that gets her on the internet, lets her burn a cd, put her pictures in, so a $500 computer does for her the same thing that a $2000 computer would do.

**** I use a 6 year old computer at home and would probably still use my windows 98 PII if my wife did not buy me the "new" one for a gift.

its just my opinion.

I'd rather have a good laptop over a good tv any day, it's just a matter of preference. To you it's not worth the money, to me it's well worth the money.
