The only way (albeit impractical) would be to lower highway speed limits to 35-45 MPH to accomodate the got-my-license-by-default-when-I-turned-21 drivers, as well as the old folks, the young folks, and everyone who has insufficient experience. That would cause a slow but steady pace that everyone can follow. And make it much safer to recieve road head.

To add to the affore mention scenario, the traffic behind driver A in the right lane, whom have all merged at an acceptable rate of speed, and have not caused a ******* bottle neck during thier respective merge(s) onto the freeway, are livid that the over-cautious, over-courtious, driver A hasn't yet grasped the concept of negotiating traffic entering the freeway, so in turn they begin to move left as driver A continues to "throw out the anchor" .

Ah yes, an important oversight!

umm...I posted after reading the scenarion alone, upon further reading I can deduce that driver A (as in *******) is clearly responsible for adding to the slowdown of traffic and the inevitable accident, and while it may seem that Lady on the cell phone could have avioded the accident, were she not on said phone, what Steve's shallow thoughts of traffic jams didn't tell you is that she also had a ***** plugged into the cig lighter and was almost at climax, so that, coupled with rambling on the phone in heavy traffic resulted in the proverbial **** hitting the fan.

The problem's source is lack of education, lack of training and lack of awareness. The result is injury or death.

That's the bottom line.

A similar problem that I experience frequently: I'm in crowded, slowly-yet-constantly-moving traffic, when someone decides to be nice and STOPS MOVING TRAFFIC to let someone in. Now if we're stopped, and when the line gets moving again you decide to let someone in, I see that as acceptable.

I think this is a classic case of misplaced anger. Instead of being angry at the poor sap who is dawdling along in the right lane, direct your anger instead at a government which is taxing the **** out of gasoline and pissing away the money. Be angry at city planners who allow developers to build giant malls and office parks with no thought to getting people in and out without huge backups.

Every day, you will encounter people whom you may view as stupid, incompetent, or ignornant. They may be driving the car in the other lane, they may be teaching your child how to do math, they may be your boss. But they are people. And to them, you might not look too bright either. And it is wrong to judge them.

You may continue your rant. I have spoken my piece, and will go off in search of ****.

Specifically speaking, in most states, existing traffic has the right-of-way. Meaning, the car in the merge lane yeilds. Not the retard in traffic. The effect of the congestion is caused by the ignorant (yes, they're ignorant) person who is being overly-cautious. Rules of the road amounts to 'yield', but should not take precedence over the traffic law. It's people that act contrary (unnecessarily yielding) to what everyone else is trying to do (follow state traffic law) that cause the problems. The problem's source is lack of education, lack of training and lack of awareness. The result is injury or death.

Sorry, but this I must refute.

Injury or death only occurs in this scenario when some impatient hothead lets his emotions get the better of him, and does something stupid. And in so doing, that person has exhibited his own lack of education, lack of training, and lack of awareness.

It's not a rant, it's a thought. And I disagree wholly with your perspective. The roads are mere tools of transportation, and with adaptation and understanding of princples and laws of the road, these tools are properly utilized. Furthermore, being ignorant of the law is ignorance defined. For myself, being aware of the law prevents me from being identified as the ignorant driver. It is not wrong to judge them, for they are the reason that my commute is so dangerous.

Ingorance causes dangerous action, dangerous actions cause accidents.

I am not saying that no other person in the scenario is not ignorant. I am simply identifying the root cause. Just because it's not the immediate predecessor to a fatal accident doesn't mean that it's not the ultimate culprit. If the Driver A were removed as a factor then this scenario would never play itself out. Fact is, the scenario happens on a daily basis, sometimes without accidents at all. The traffic jam still occurs, creates congestion where it shouldn't be and increases the danger level for everyone.

I've personally experienced near accidents caused by this erratic and neurotic behavior on multiple occasions. Sounds to me like you're defensive of the poor driving characteristics of Driver A, which implies your self-identification and subsequently causes a generalization that you're categorized with people of this caliber.

No, this is quite clearly a rant, as "thought" would necessitate some ability to grasp an opposing viewpoint. I agree that in a perfect world, a collection of identical motorists with identical perspectives and habits and cars could utilize your "tools of tramsportation" in a slightly more efficient manner.

However, this does not describe the reality. There are conservatives and liberals, men and women, tourists and commuters, street racers and lollygaggers. There are people driving cars that can accelerate quickly and there are people driving 20-year old diesel Rabbits.

I am amused by your efforts to discredit me. I do not own an Audi, a Corvette, and a beater Turbo II so that I can ease into interstate traffic at 35 mph. I can assure you that I do not identify with bad drivers, but as a mature human being, I can acknowledge their existence and cut them an iota of slack.

Well, Sinful, you have caused me to break my resolve not to post in this thread yet again. You are a worthy adversary, and I concede your point. May your evening be full of naked women, and all your highways be free of jams.
