[quote name='94touring' date='Mar 15 2005, 10:17 PM']I'm a private pilot half way finished with my commericial and starting on my instrument. The ONLY person who makes the final go decision would be me the pilot in command. This morning it was 8c on the surface, freeze level was reported at 2800, clouds were dropping, rain moving in the area, and a 737 at international reported rhime ice on final. If nearly 2 years of ground school has taught me one thing its not to become a hazordous attitude pilot who thinks he can fly in any kind of weather. "macho- taking risks are foolish", ring a bell? I have flown in the rain several times myself, but if you add ice and a dropping cloud ceiling to the picture and expect me to go, I'll call you an idiot every time.

In the situation you gave us....I thought you were still working on your private...in that case you were not PIC . Your instructor was.

But never the less....if that was the situation then it is good you stayed put.

The type of the flying I have been doing...I have not stopped due to weather...in a while. Guess I have been lucky It just hasn't been that bad yet.

I tell you one thing when you start flying a plane that can carry a ton of ice, certified for flight into known icing, radar, back up everything, lots of power with a second engine, and a second pilot...you can do a lot....not everything...but a lot Then you jump in a single engine plane with nothing ... meh

I remember back when I was doing my instrument rating being concerned when it was 800 and 2. Now things have changed a lil bit. 1/2 vis still gets me keyed up but it is fun Unless it is at teh end of a 10 hour duty day

Remember we tried an ILS when it was calling 1/4 vv100 yeah... we went to the alternate that day

Wanksta- Flying auto parts so you don't have to

Yeah, flightinfo can get a little flame happy. But I think you need to toughen your skin a little bit. I have never been flamed that bad over there. There is alot of good experience over there...to much to ignore. Just gotta turn your BS filter on.
