go with the turbo fc, they can be had for much cheaper than you think search craigslist, autotrader.com and cars.com, this forum and the other rx7 forum .
i can find running turbo fc all day long for 2000 or less. granted you may want to plan an engine rebuild shortly depending on the type of power output you'd eventually like to make but still i believe $ wise you will be spending less then your other options. oh ive foudn fcs for less than 2k. but not a turbo model. u think u could help me find one in the new england area? (i think u must be out west or something. |

i think your maths are off by at least 3x... i'd plan on about 10k for either the turbo fc or 240. 240 will be a little cheaper overall, but after suspension, wheels, engine, exhaust, radiators, clutch etc etc
it would be about 4k, if you had the body, and the motor already nah because the vh45 is a very affordable v8, i can even show you the ad, and the place where im going to get it if i end up doing it. masworx has engine mounts for the vh45> 240 conversion pretty cheap. and the bell housing adapter for the vh45 with 300zx tranny is 400. the tranny comes with the clutch, sticking with the normal vh45 rad for now, wheels im keeping stock for now (or taking sum rims from my brother for free) the exhaust im doing myself, and suspension mods are just lowering springs and maybe shocks for now. so my estimate is closer to fact than fiction. im getting all my figures from a guy who already did the swap (for 3200.) im eliminating installation costs by doing it myself. i actually might get my exhaust done up at the exhaust shop nearby, straight pipes no cat. thats if i do this swap. |

Well I have a friend who does 240sx's.... and he just bought a CLEAN, I mean CLEAN RB26DETT-swapped one with a dyno of 680hp for $18k.
But while I was looking at cars, before I decided on the FB RX-7, I was looking at a non-running 240sx for $700. Granted, the body was a little beat up, but repairable. So how much you want to spend will depend on what you get. I saw a nice FC CONVERTABLE go for $900 on Craigslist the other day. You just have to know what you want and keep your eyes open for the deals. I missed out on that, because I DEFINATELY would've bought it. Just do like I did. Every day search Craigslist- and not just YOUR craigslist, but all craigslists within the distance you'd be willing to travel to get a car. And every day search eBay within XXXmiles. yeah the dude who put the engine into the 240 said there wasnt much modification needed, except of course the exhaust. but he made his own engine mounts, but he told me about masworx mounts.

240 sounds cheaper to obtain than an FC(provided it's in good condition), but the end result might be way more money than you'd have expected. Unless of course, it has that engine in it already(VH45DE), but that you can't exactly guarantee if they did a standup job on it.

thanks, and yeah my dads retiring, he started givin me his tools now, and i can use his 2 post lift whenever i feel like it! i can also use my university when i get there next year. im pretty good wit my hands so i think i kno wat im doin! but thanks again man. |

Trust me when I say it. If you are going to buy an RX-7, save the extra money and wait a few months longer and purchase a TII.
I found 2 TII's in my area for sale that are less than 3k. They had some problems and had 100K+ miles on the car, but it was still a driveable and startable car. |
