[quote name='christi' date='Oct 13 2002, 10:22 PM']Hmm.. you won't get bored of the 500 R nor a sv650.
Learn how to ride a bike before you move to something that is and will be beyond your reach. If you don't know how to control the bike in a situtation that you get introuble with.. well, then guess what? you're in ****.
Learn before you move up, is my only advise I can give, and that hope you will take.

"I don't have enough $$ to learn"
WTF? What does that have to do of not having to kill yourself? I didn't tell you to go to motorcycle school to learn. You learn by not getting a fast torquey bike that WILL kill you. If you act stupid, whether you say you will or you won't. You learn by starting off small and working your way up. You do NOT learn on fast bikes that have a lot of torque, you do NOT learn on bikes that are heavy and can tip easily.
Period. That is the most irrevelent type of information you had given me.
Whether or not you're a good rider or not, getting a fast bike, not enough experience on a motorcycle you will do something stupid. You will drop the bike, and why spend alot more money on replacing something on a full bike, than a naked bike? Why endanger you life?
I've known stupid people who think that they can get on any type of bike because they don't wanna get bored. Put your life in place of that boredom, before riding a bike. If you think you're well enough experience to start off on a 954RR , then sir. I feel for you, and I will wait for you to call me from the hosiptal telling me I was right.
Safety first, fun last.

Everyone will lay down a bike. That's entirely true regardless of riding ability and luck. But more times than not, it's cheaper to buy new skin for the bike than to let the insurance company buy oem stuff for it.

You won't get bored out of a sv650..
but you are stupid enough to buy a bike that is semi-fast, than what you're probably used to.. whether or not you've taken the class, and that is very torquey.
Oh, well. You'll see. Having a sv650, and because it's not a "over the lump gas tank bike" doesn't mean it'll bore you. Learn to ride, before hopping on the big boys bikes, is all I have to tell you.

Revvin, your thinking right, buy the better bike and practice self control, I started out with the ZX-11, it was actually good becuse the bike scared the **** out of me when I first got it, once the bike hit 1000 miles, I got on it, and I think I may have **** myself. As long as you have respect for yourself and the speed of the bike, there is no reason not to get the better bike NOW. With the re-sale value of bikes once you buy them new, I cant see who CAN afford to buy a slower bike then sell it. I only practiced for like 3 weeks on a old Honda that my friends traded around with each other just to try riding and to get a feel for it, but I NEVER would have bought a different bike first.
