[quote name='Shane.Trammell' date='Jul 20 2005, 11:40 AM']The ban on assult rifles that recently expired didnt not lower the number of violent gun crimes at all. These guys are still going to commit the crimes, theyre gonna use whatever they can get

Exactly, why punish the masses with a bullshit law?

I own a tactical shotgun, it's my first gun. I don't hunt or shoot skeet. It's not good for that (Barrel length: 18"). It's for Law Enforcement. I just have it for the reason sweet7 gave "its better to have a gun and not need it, than it is to need a gun and not have one."
But also, I just think it's kewl . I've had a fascination with firearms since I was a kid and learned about how they work and their relevance.

"The Masses" think they need assault rifles?
I think it's asinine that people have to be afraid of having a gun waved in their face when they go out to a nightclub. Do you take your assault rifle with you?
And we have that problem here without allowing any moron to buy one at Wal-Mart.

Outside of the military, 99% of people I know have assault rifles because they are gun enthusiasts. Is there something wrong with that? People have hobbies.
After this post im pretty glad canadians dont influence American gun laws....

We don't have a gun problem in Ireland because the only people with guns use them for hunting, and because getting a licence involves background tests etc. The people who enjoy guns still get to enjoy them, but must be deemed suitable to own one. Even at that if you want something powerful, you have to work your way up with less powerful guns. This might seem a bit strict, but IMO there's no other way to treat ownership of a device whose sole purpose is to take life.
I'm not anti-guns, but I do feel that over there it's way to easy to get your hands on one - with the consequence that they're an everyday household item.

Believe me, we're happy we don't have your crime rates, and that we don't feel the need to barricade ourselves in our homes at night. What a funny coincidence.
PS: I own guns and have used them all my life. Why you people insist on allowing ANYONE to get them is beyond my imagination.

I've had guns around me my whole life. Both of my grandpas were and still are members of the NRA. Sadly, the majority of my family cannot own guns, that whole felon thing you know, but the ones that do have them for good reasons.
And then there are the rednecks who just like to have guns. Think there is a war on their front porch or something.
