Right. An AO3, last post was the USS Forrestall. Later renamed the Forrest Fire.

Over the 4 years I built up 1911A1s for pistole teams, and boy scout troops.

We let the scouts and just about anyone, shoot on our range at Mustin field in the Philadelphia Navy yard.

Just one round at a time for the scouts. Quite a few rounds into Camden NJ until we cut them down to one round. No matter how small they were, they got to shoot all they wanted to. I could hold my hands around the kids and get him into the black even with his eyes shut. They loved it. The Dads loved it too. A few had been in Korea and had some experience. Some had none.

One day I was in the target shack at the left end of the firing line, and Timmy Sell had a clump of scouts on the line with .45s and magazines with one round each.

I was reading a girly mag, and he did the calls for the kids. With the .45 in your right hand and muzzle pointed down range, take the magazine in your left hand, and insert it....BLAM....

Hanover? Are you OK? he yells.

The round from the number one position, went through the wooden wall, between my nose and the magazine, and out the other wall. Not even a splinter. I got shot at more times on the pistol range than I did as a cop.

We only had WWll ammo which was pretty hot for 50 yards. Sometimes the bill on their ball caps was all that kept the slide from spitting their foreheads.

So a second round would go straight up, or worse, behind them. I bet every one of those little guys remembers that day at the range yet today. No sound suppression or any of that sissy stuff.

We let them and their parents and troop people shoot until they couldn't hold the piece up anymore. We had unlimited ammo.

My favorite is the 1911A1 and the old Mark 3 20MM automatic cannon.

Since I am queer for aircraft the Forestall was a gas for me. A new airshow every day. Bombs and guns 24/7. What kid wouldn't like that?

On a visit to see my son in Lost Wages NV. last year, I stopped in at a gun range in Gene NV and tried out the M-16, a Glock, something that looked like an M-16 but used .38 pistol ammo? And last the 1911A1. One of the store people stands right there and watches you. I picked up the .45 and rattled the slide around on the frame.

It was junk. About a million rounds had been through it. But it was only 25 yards.

I got a tight pattern but low left. The store guy looked at the target and said you been doing this long? I hadn't fired a pistol since 1962. He snapped his new Kimber off his belt and handed it to me. That is one fine pistole there. Crisp and tight. Didn't come back to battery once. Brand new and very tight. A very good buy if you need a .45. I fired 4 magazines through it. Very nice piece.

If you cannot hit whatever you can see with an M-16 you need to get your *** kicked good. I liked that one also.

I had a great time.

I enjoyed the shooting range story, I think most people that spend time at any range have at least one story to tell about someone being careless/inexperienced with a firearm.

A Baretta 92F is the sidearm of choice, it goes where I do...

I also enjoy the hell out of my 220 swift.

And, of course the M-1, a great rifle.
If you're gonna get a concealed, do so with the intention of carrying an automatic. Why? If you go the range and shoot the required tables with a revolver, you have to carry a revolver. If you shoot the tables with an automatic, you can carry both. At least most states are like that. Stupid as hell I know, but thats the rules.

That's fine. I've been practicing at the range mainly with a browning .38 that's automatic and that is what I will bring to the test.
All it takes is a drunk to jump in his car and kill your family on the way home from the bar to become a criminal. It's not that hard to do the wrong thing. There was a guy in Tokyo a few months back that decided while driving home from a typical day in the office how many people he could kill with his car. So he floored it and drove up on to the side walk in to a crowd of pedestrians. He killed a few and messed up a whole bunch more but you don't see anyone trying to ban the automobile.

Another point I'd like to make is that people who go threw the whole legal process of taking classes, filling out forms etc to get a concealed weapons permit are usually not the type of people who will draw their weapon just because they got pissed off at somebody.

So cars can be dangerous therefore guns are safe?

Point taken about the concealed weapon people/permits.
My FD with 400 WHP is too deadly for you, too. Have fun in crime-free, murder-free, felony-free Ireland and UK.

After everything I have said you still think I am some anti-gun type, I'm not, I'm just pro-responsibility. Ireland is certainly not crime free, but you can walk down the roughest street without the having to worry about a gun being pulled on you.
Guns are not safe, you're one of those people who think people kill people not guns?

Thats exactly how it works. Just as someone stated earlier, without the trigger being pulled no one gets hurt/killed. When it comes down to criminals, who have decided malicious harm is the only way to handle things they will find some type of weapon to carry out their agenda. Whether it be a gun, knife, bomb, etc...

People kill people, bottom line. Guns are just another means of this. And if it weren't for guns or bombs YOU would not have the freedoms you have today.
Yayer, I'm not depriving you of your right to have guns, I am a bit confused why you would need to take one shopping, noone is going to come up to you and shoot you out of the blue, the worst that could happen is you lose $100 or whatever's in your wallet. If you pulled a gun back at the person chances are you're gonna get shot or end up in jail for shooting them. Freedom does not necessarily have to equal being able to carry lethal weapons 24/7.

And for what it's worth we have 3 regularly used guns in the house, I grew up with them so I know exactly where you're coming from.

Everyday innocent people are killed in the US. Anyone carrying a firearm is just looking to protect themselves from this criminal element. If I didn't live in a fucked up state run by people who think like you, then believe I'd be carrying in a second.

Speaking of concealed carry permits I qualified and the after approval I realized I didnt allow me to have it where I needed it most.

Louisiana you cant go into a public place such as a mall, stores or crack houses etc....

So when you are walking the streets of New Orleans or just getting to your car you wouldnt have it on you for prevention or "return fire".

Your legal to have it exposed as a sidearm, legal in your car.You shoot someone OUTSIDE your car here if they may be carjacking you.You can shoot tresspassersat home if harm is possible. So WTF?

Find out what the concealed carry permit allows before you spend the money. You may not need it.
