new cars are so safe at the expense of weight, I dont think there are any 4 door sedans that are under 3400lbs or so

I actually like the sho on paper, but its more then I want to spend on a car like that, if the car was more in the $32k range I might have actually ordered one already.

I gave up on cars for now, going to keep my jeep another 6 months until I make up my mind.

I am holding out for Mazda to put the 16x into something and hopefully achieve somewhere around 300hp.

ah the classic take a shot at SUVs by the enviro-nuts

By heavier cars they mean loaded with airbags and impact beams. For some reason the Pontiac G6 weighed exactly the same as the Intrepid despite being something like 18" shorter.

Yes, that's very compelling, but it still amazes me how heavy today's cars are. And what is the weight of that old Bel-Air?

Strength and weight aren't necessarily synonymous. Lightweight structures can be very strong.

i bet the new car is in the 3500lbs range, and the old one is in the 3500lbs range.... the old car is iron and steel...

i remember reading about the JGTC skylines, speaking of heavy, and they were machining 66kg off the RB26 blocks to try to not make them so heavy, and then switched to the VQ engine, cause it was lighter. the RB26 engine started around 1000lbs, which has to make it the heaviest post WWII engine ever, even a big block ford needs the trans to get to that kind of weight
