Asus, all the way...and definitely AMD. Get a Volcano heatsink/fan combo from Thermaltake to cool that bad boy CPU. You want DDR memory, 80GB hard drive (40 will not last, trust me), and the 3D card is a matter of personal preference. I like NVIDIA, so I bought the GeForce Ti4600 when it came out like 8 months ago. You could probably save a lot of cash going with the 4600 instead of the 9500 or 9700, though I'm not positive. I'm still waiting for the GeforceFX...

If you have any questions, just ask.
nvidia needs to get their **** together that's fo sho

If you want a really pimp computer at a way better price then Alienware, Falcon NorthWest, or any onther major gaming computer company i could spec you one build it and i'll put a 3 yr warrenty on all the parts. If you want a really good all round computer go Dell. But for serious gaming if you want to fork out the cash Alienware but i could build you a computer just as good if not better.

yeah I'd be curious to know how much one of you guys want to build a nice computer.

I just need something simple and fast. I don't do graphics or intense gaming...basically just internet.

Well if any one wants me to spec out a system for them just AIM me and we can talk. I'll due it at no mark-up minus 20 bucks a hour build time and that should only be like 60 bucks. Even with that because of where i get my stuff i can build a computer 100's cheaper than most of the companys out there. Just IM me Godspell4000.

I always use this: http://www.pricewatch.com/

Go to each component at a time, and select from your price range. To find out more about each item, just run a search on the specific model for "reviews" or "ratings".

That site is basically just a search engine for the cheapest parts anywhere in the U.S.

Also, this is the order you should buy things:

1) Motherboard

2) CPU

3) all fans/cables/case

4) hard drive

5) video card

6) ram

This is the order that I feel will save you the most money. I listed them in order from most stable prices to most fluctuating/depreciating

Good luck

Oh yeah, when I was supended from driving for a year I decided to "fix up" my computer. I ended up with a dual processor p3 1 ghz w/1 gb ram and raid 0. I ended up with 5 hard drives totalling 400 gb

By the time I was DONE, some parts like the ram had prices cut in half. Then I moved on to RC cars
