got the flat black treatment, I can see some really really bad

bodywork with flat black paint on it in your future.
yup and i don't care look at the blazer. body work ain't everything.....especially on vehicles that cost under $1000
true, but a mint one would only fetch like $1500 if your lucky
this one looks ok for $850 for a drift beater

i think mint ones are hard to find

I meant $1500 if the SELLER was lucky.

Not much market for them.

I should point out that the Starion was THE car to mod in the late 80s.

when modding turbo charged japenese cars was uncommon.

Awesome cars! Way before their time.I love the 15x8 front and 15x9 rear rims. I always thought a Rotary guy could probably make some nice power with one. They have a funky fuel system. I think they have 2 fuel injectors for 4 cylinders. I know a lot of the Starquest guys are stealing parts from newer DSM vehicles.

Well it was nice having you here at no pistons. Be sure to tell the guys at your new forum Jim sent you.

Actually this crew is really cool. I have had some nice exchanges with them. They really respect the RX-7's no real haters there.
I knew there was a reason I was seeing a few hits from this site onto tristarion in the weblogs.

We try to be pretty level headed guys over there. A word in the defense of the Starion... They are fun Depends on how deep you wallets are (which I'm sure you all are familiar with that). I've got much respect for the Rx7 crowd, I've got a couple of buddies here local to me that I help with their cars all the time. Just like the starion's around here, most of the Rx7s aren't running... yet, or they were are aren't now.

Hopefully I'll finish up this job I'm doing on an FD with a T78. I was "hired on" to to the e6k installation and base tune. This car should rip some major ***, but I know I could not afford whats into this car. Pretty things the FDs are, and many cool features (like the bose system in the trunk).

My starion no longer has that TBI fuel system. It does its job, but it wasn't for me. I swapped to another intake manifold and run the E6K on this daily driver.... One day it may be fast, or maybe not? Who knows, but I'm at least having alot of fun (and a few headaches with it).

On a side note, being a piston head by nature, I fail to understand the trailing ignition split completely. None of the rotor heads around here can give me an answer I'm happy with, any insight?

Also, I wouldn't mind knowing more about ignition timing events, and how the effect a rotory, where "tdc?" is, and the like. Is there any rotory-for-idiots kind of references?

Thanks,

Joel

The Starion is a very cool car. The jet valve head is wierd. I thought I had read somewhere that you can swap a newer DSM turbo head on and kill two birds with one stone... lose the jet valve (main cause of head cracks) and the TBI. Of course there is a lot more work involved to make everything play together in terms of elctronics... but the bottom ends are pretty stout.

I keep trying to convince my Mitsu buddy to get one.

Nope. DSM head wont even remotely fit

You can get a non-jet valve head (which is a thicker casting) brand new from marnal/AMC (I have one on the shelf in the garage), but I've been using the stock one without cracking it. I've horsebeat it to death, including some incidents where it overheated some. The heads crack about as easy as any other overheated car, but constant high heat cycle will increase your chances.

I've considered swapping in a 4g63 or a g63/64b and just hooking the haltech up to that... but the transmissions from the 2L trucks that will fit may or may not hold up well. Right now I'm not ready to give up on the 2.6, and as of late theres been a couple guys doing real well on pump gas. I'm not one of them... yet.

Bummer. I thought it was pretty unlikely that a 2.0L and a 2.6L had the same bore spacing.

Maybe swaping a Galant stroked DSM motor would work... a little less displacement (just under 2.4L), but probably a lot easier to hop-up reliably. Will the Starion tranny not bolt up to a 4g63?
