The big three are the only ones to put out factory "supercars". To compete w/ them the car would have to cost 50,000usd, put 450+ hp to the street and they would probably only sell 4, partially due to the fact that it's an import.

Who are you gonna sell two seat sports cars to? Young ppl who cannot afford an unpractical car, or older ppl who have to pick between a Corvette, a Viper, or a car that hasn't been sold in any showroom in America in almost 10 years.

And don't you dare say Miata, who ever suggested that should be slapped!

(god damned Del SOl copy, I hate F@CKING HONDA"S)
I don't mean to bag on you man.. you had some good points.. but basic concepts you fail to grasp

Miata = 2400 lb car, 50/50 weight and RWD

Del Sol = Heavy Car, mediocre handling, FWD

Miata is the weiner here.. you should watch SCCA races more, see how many Miatas own track out there

And who would buy a 2 door 2 seater? I dunnow how many 350Zs do you see driving around? Hmm

And who said anything about Mazda HAS to produce a "supercar" as you put it. Wouldn't the proper group of people they're trying to reach be the same group thats purchasing 350Zs, S2000s, RX8s, and STi's and Evos?

Yeah, unfortunately when he was explaining it to me, he did say that it would look almost identical to the RX-8 just a few inches shorter due to the back door deletion. I agree with the fact that if Mazda does decide to make a "Super Car" ya know 40-50k production vehicle (and don't say an import company won't do it) that they should try a RX-9 3 rotor design with different styling, and a heavy pricetag something like in the NSX category so you only see them rarely and you get a great sense of awe and satisfaction just by laying your eyes on it. Something different not a bastardized RX-8 with a bigger engine, something completely new. Above and beyond the common 350Z, Evo, and STi, kind of like a Japanese Vette or Viper, something would scare the **** out of you on the highway! The NSX is the only really good example of what I would like to see from Mazda. Rare, fast as hell, A price tag that not every 16-23 year old can afford (I couldn't afford it either, just makes them more unique) and seizure causing style!!

After going to the auto show today, I've realized Mazda is probably losing a major battle between the SRT-4, Evo, and WRX. They need to get in on this big time and own. What's the deal?! It's not like they couldn't do it!

i think you guys have your heads up in the clouds, i mean how can mazda be losing a battle between mitsu, sube, and dodge? anyway, they are not coming out with a new 7. why the **** would they? because some realistically 5,000 people on some rotary board want to see it come out? i don't think so. the only way the 7 would come back is if the rx8 sold HUGE numbers over next couple of years, and then they might consider another rotary experiment car... but as long as ford has control over mazda i don't think many exciting things are gonna happen.

I can see where what I said can be misunderstood, allow me to clarify;

The Miata and the Del Sol visually seem similar, performance and tech specs never crossed my mind. The Miata, i.m.o, took away some of the allure of the

RX-7, as well as the market capabilities.

As far as racing, that is a completely different animal, also responsible for the dwindling allure, a place where r&d can be applied to production vehicles, essentially- racing Miata's doesn't do anything to improve the RX-7.

The market for performance two seaters and/or sedans is littered with choices, I don't feel the RX-8 does well in this area due to the competition, whom seems to out perform (the RX-8) across the board, although this point is moot due to the fact that the only performance aspect that hinges on weather or not we will see a new RX-7 is sales. The loyal followers of the car and engine will surely have interest in it, but can they afford to buy it, and if so will they?

I'm not saying they have to produce a supercar, but if they want to sell cars in the current market, I think the competition needs to be in the rear view, instead of us watching their taillights shrink into the distance...

Unless the 8 sells it's numbers for at least 2 years (30,000 cars a year) I dont think a new 7 will be out anytime soon. And anybody who says it is coming out for sure is lying if ya ask me.

That being said, if sales stay strong by 2007 I would hope to see it. NO turbo please, but a 7 style body, 2600 pounds, 2 1.5L rotors would sure be fun!

The back needs to be low, not kicked up. The front even lower and have a gentle slope. The fenders should be accented, but not visibly (that one might be hard to grasp LOL) and keep the Rotor marks off the car dammit. The 8 has about 10 ****** rotor signs on it, we get the point, chill with that ****.

Oh oh oh, must have some new kind of cool pop-ups. HEHE
I'm with you 100%. What's the deal with all new cars having a high rear end?? Ick.. The rear of the 8 is just about the only thing I don't like about it.
