So, I've been pretty much going with video instruction and decided that I had reached a point where I just couldn't go any further without some actual theory instruction and some learning of the scales. So I had my first private lesson today and am working on the scales right now, basically going in a different direction from just learning chords and playing songs.

Music theory sucks ***. I mean, learning scales is one thing, but all those funky chords and ****, I hated that. I liked just playing what was on the paper.

Yea, but I think you have the potential to do a lot more with some theory,.

Yeah, definitely. But in high school I started to get into some of the really complicated stuff, where it's really only helpful if you're writing pieces for multiple instruments. Not my cup o tea.

I should be easier on a guitar though, since all the notes are visually laid out in front of you on the fret board.
