This is a quote from Alan Greenspan 40 years ago, I think it says a lot about what I've been discussing in regards to fiat currencies:

In the absence of the gold standard, there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. … This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists’ tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights. If one grasps this, one has no difficulty in understanding the statists’ antagonism toward the gold standard

i was in my intro to engineering class reading this post and the same day i saw this youtube video from facebook. The begining part has to do with the money situation that you guys are talking about.I'm not the type to fall easily to conspiracies (not that i believe that this is but some people might) but it shows how f*cked up our gov't really is and has substantial evidence to suggest that they are the blame for our plights in many things. I'm not trying to get you to join my view or anything, just want you to watch to see another viewpoint of things. This video isn't biased towards any political party either it actually says that both the left and the right need to work together to fix all this sh*t. Call me crazy if you must i won't deny it and if you don't agree with me i won't feel any different towards you guys. Afterall, you guys are the rotary specialists that help me out when my car starts to complain lol.

i'm beginning to think we have a weird attitude in america about politics. it like we've had gridlock in washington for so long we don't really even expect them to get anything done. if you look outside america though, you find that other governments actually sometimes do stuff that is productive, or proactive.

for example in japan, they actually did have 30 foot seawalls, and the nuclear plant appears to have survived the earthquake, its just that the GROUND sank 5 feet, so the 30 foot wave was able to clear the seawall....

in CA we're in an earthquake/tsunami zone too, and if we got a 9.0 we'd be totally screwed, no seawall....

or shoot, congress has put off the 2010 budget so long, the 2011 budget is almost due. new zealand has maintained a balanced budget for at least 10 years, they realized its part of their national security, and did something about their deficits.

so if that make me a librarian, then that makes me a librarian, but really it would be nice to see a govt that worked!

Librarian? Lol I'm with you though. The one thing they do get involved in that I hate is military strategy. We haven't been able to fight an effective war since ww2 because the government ties the military's hands behind it's back. Just IMO anyways...
