Company Server + Slammer Virus
#1
well, our nt server got nailed down by that slammer virus from last week......nothing suffered much so its kinda cool and we invested in a cisco switch (2950G) i believe.....that thing's worth more than my 3 cars together....
i didnt watch tv this weekend so i was unaware that SQL 2000 was the program affected and wasnt aware of any patch......well, monday morning at work, no internet........the firewall (cisco pix 506) is blinking really fast....check out the NT server, 400,000,000 packets sent in 4 hours.....hehe glad someone told me "could it be that virus that hit last week? " ....

We got about a dozen of them that are vulnerable to it. Not too tough to kill. Just reboot. But finding those dozen sucked. We had no way to pinpoint the problem causers (in a multi-billion dollar company that can't do crap right when the **** hits the fan). So we just located the IP's that were generating the most network activity. Hey, don't look at me. If I had it my way things would be different. My bosses are STILL sending out revised plans of attack to handle this issue about once every couple of hours. Well, 99% of the possible computers, only a dozen could be the cause of our troubles.
At least the overtime was nice.
