I agree.
Someone should have checked up on him, especially on a high dollar car like a Z06. No need to hold his hand while he turned the wrenches, but if someone experienced was checking on em they would have heard the engine ticking as soon as he started it up, and saved the shop 20k in the meanwhile.
IT WAS AN OIL CHANGE THOUGH !!
anyone dumb enough not to put oil in a car for an oil change is an idiot.

ok try to answer some questions about "the kid".
I call him the kid, cause well hes younger then me. But im 21, hes umm 18 i think. He started working at the shop as part of a work study program from a local high school which focus on technical things, almost a tech school but still a high school...hard to explain. Anyway hes been working here close to 2 years.
After 2 years HE ONLY KNEW HOW TO DO OIL CHANGES ETC. We even sent him to sponsored classes for brakes, alignments, etc. Try to push him up in the ranks...he still couldnt do jack ****.
No one was given the task of watching over him because, well, hes been doing oil changes for 2 years, probably been doing coolant services for ummm 8 months-ish.
Our shop is in a "rich" location, we work based on our quality not our speed but we are a rather fast shop. But these people can drop their porsches off and we call them the same day and they tell us to keep it for a few days their jaguar needs to be driven more. seriously. One guy brings his Benz S500 in, and no matter what work it gets it sits at the shop for a week...just cause he has like 4 or 5 other cars.
Anyway, we're known for the quality of work, and we get paid what we deserve for that kind of work. The shops rate is $90 an hour, and i think the basic oil change (dino oil, filter, top fluids, bla bla, the regular ****) is something like $35 after taxes. Compare that to shops a few towns over doing it for $17.95 or whatever and youd expect us to nosedive, but since were known for good work our parking lot is always packed.
The reason for not noticing buzzers, i dunno. Im pretty sure the Z06's have an OP Gauge in them stock as well so why he didnt notice Oil pressure was at 0 psi, who knows. I guess he was too focused on the coolant temp gauge.
Oh, and yes this kid shouldve been fired a long time ago. Ive always thought so, ive always considered him a waste of an employee. Someone not trying to get ahead, just sorta complacent with being a lackey. But no one shared my opinion because we needed someone to do the bitch work in the shop, basically.
But i think from now on people will be listening to me more.
On a side note, did a timing belt on a forester today....subarus have huge ******* timing belts.
kevin.

first off, I was only adding to john's comment about his self esteem, we are just making talk, not like I ran up to the kid and yelled at him and called him stupid
please dont blur the line between making stupid conversation and reality.
The way I see it is this: a Z06 vette requires synthetic oil, im sure SOMEONE had to give this guy the oil, the boss, the parts guy, whoever.
Did he not notice that he had some un-opened oil sitting there on the shelf? Heck- I put it in the engine compartment and even leave the empties off to the side.
You would think that this guy, working on a nice car like a Z06 Vette, would want to prove he can do a nice neat job so he isnt stuck doing shitty things all day. Instead he forgot the oil- kind of a major part of the job, then he sat there revving the engine not noticing the oil pressure or the light, im sure the ******* thing has a low oil light even if it has a gauge. You would also think that he would have let it run a few seconds, then shut it off to check the oil level, I mean how many of you know how much oil to put in a Z06 vette? I dont- I would want to check it to make sure its at the right level
Im all for learning, but again I speak from frustration of having to take care of every single little thing by myself because people cant be trusted to do the simplest of tasks.

My self esteem comment is based on the way todays Generation is CODDLED in school/home and recreation activities so that they "never feel bad". Hell, in some school districts you cant even give a dumbfuck an "f" because it "will damge his self esteem"
If you learn how to fail at a young age and what it means, failure turns into an excellant teaching tool. It tells you what you DONT KNOW. I have failed at crap all my life, but you dont see me wa-whaing to mommy. The DF in this incident is probably bad-mouting every one in the dealership, his tech school teachers and the carr owner for picking on his dumb-***!
