.308 and 300WinMag are probably the best cartridges for target shooting, in my opinion. If I was buying another Sako TRG, I'd probably go with one of those two, rather than the .338 Lapua Sako TRG I have now. 1000 meter range is easy for a good rifle with any of those rounds, 500 meters would be child's play.

You can buy replicas of the militarys M24SWS. I use the the M24SWS on a nearly daily basis and am in love with that rifle. Its a .308. We shoot in excess of 800m 90% of the time. It'll shoot a 1/2 inch 5-shot group at 500m in the right hands. It also packs a very good punch.

You lost me man. There is a huge difference between the the .243 and 30-06, although not much difference between the 30-06, 7mm mag, or 300win. mag. We us the .308 cartriage for just about everything unless we go big with a .50cal. What are you trying to kill?

You mean this bad boy? Can you even buy this in the public?

Yeah thats the Barrett M82. There are about a million versions of it. I'm not sure if you can buy the military version which is semi-automatic. But I know Barrett has single shot .50cals on the market that can be puchased by the public.

Its not so much that its a massive bullet, its the fact that it has enough powder behind it punch through a BMPs armor. We were ******* around one day a punching holes in a rusted up BMP at about 3800yards. Thats a long ways for a bullet to travel and then punch through armor.
