Haha, you would think that. Actually we have football coaches who play track.

"There's only one way!! It doesnt matter what sport youre in you do it the Spartan way!!!"

In offseason the "spartan way" translates to an off-season football workout. Consisting of lifting upper body 3 times a week. Legs twice a week. Dots, ladders, and jumpropes 5 times a week. And running 8 110m striders twice a week. I don't think i'm getting any better.

you have to split your days to fast days and slow days...

so you can alternate them ...... on your fast days run 4x600m's about 80% ,you can also run 4x1000m@80%(give yourself time to recover from these)you can run ladders of 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, 600m, 400m, 200m rest about 3 mins in between runs, you can also run 1600m, start out with a decent pace run, and burst every other 200m.

on slow days...... you can go for distance runs..... run 3200m while sprinting the straightaways.......or just run around til you get tired or something

dont forgot to warm up before you stretch, and cool down for about 800m-1600m then do another set of stretches.... and when you get the chance do heal/toes, roll to the ball of your feet, and rock back to the heel(try to make your toes reach your shin) to prevent shin splints
Thanks a bunch. That's a lot of good info. Its gonna take a while to get up to being able to run that though. Being out of any running for a month coming out of cross country has me in such bad shape right now. 800's wind me baddd as of now. I just got back from running up and down the hill in front of my house. It's about 400m long. Did 5 up and downs. One thing that i found is a problem is while my calves are massive i have really weak quads. Outside of lifting and focusing on running more with my quads instead of all calves do you know any ways to strengthen that muscle?

those workouts are great for offseason, it will help you with your speed, (it will be very useful for your 800m). before his workouts start you should run your distance runs(avoid lifting before running, you'll end up pulling a muscle), so you dont completely lose your endurance. keep up with his workouts for up to 1 month before you start the season, and within that month, start doing the workouts that i told you....

So don't start the workouts you told me now after school? Wouldn't it help to start training earlier? It seems like all the good teams and best runners start training the summer before almost. ALso you know anything about the quads question in my last post?

if you're out of shape, run cross country workouts to get back in.... your muscles are not used to moving as fast or as much anymore, so they are tighter than they normally would durning the season.... so start with longer runs and work your way down to shorter distances. you'll respond better to that, than doing strenious shorter distance workouts. if you think abuot it... you'll be able to do the harder shorter stuff more efficiently if you have the endurnace to do them correctly

long distances like cross country stuff, in conjuction with weight lifting is the best way to stay in shape when you're far away from the start of your season.... once i quit football, thats what i did, i lifted weights and ran cross country.i would always be one of the last finishers considering im a sprinter, but when the season came, i would be able to run the sprint workouts without burning out by the end of practice. as for your quads...... do squats (you're *** will look better too.. hehe)
