the league of nations was ****, it didnt ever get anything done because the main country that was supporting it never entered because of our congress.

and actually, the only reason they let germany get away with invading countries was because hitler promised that it was all he wanted, and that he wouldnt rage war if he got them.

but dave, thats the part we are critizing about sadams laws, its not the way they were carried out, its the fact that those WERE the laws.

and tyson, like dave said all the mass murdering took place later in the war, there was no murder, just a large sense of anti-semmetism, so how do you expect countries to respond to something that hasnt happened yet?

and what do you expect me to do about the killings in africa? im not trying to say were the super bestest nation and we always do whats right! im saying that it should be acted on more heavily than invading countries is.

Comical, 18-25 year old Canadians, commenting on the state of the world and their countries' involvement in it (or lack thereof) a country that took orders from the British as was loyal to the crown (a concept that the United States did away with nearly 150 years prior to Canada even being allowed to represent themselves @ world functions i.e. 1919 Peace Conference and League Of Nations)

Your country didn't have a Declaration of Independence, Canada had a Declaration Of Equality...Some other governing body telling you, as a country, what to do, even today there are three countries that have a vested interest in Canada and the strongest of the three are next door neighbors and yet you have the nerve to bash the U.S. and it's policies when your country has a history as being a follower, and a fair weather follower at that, "We are a peacekeeping nation" Please!, what kind of a spineless, cop out statement is that, in other words we do not have the ***** to stand on our own but we, as a country, will jump on the winning bandwagon, unless of course there is no imminent threat to us or our way of life, and if that is the case we will allow draft dodgers and other spineless, unpatriotic, ppl to reside in our country, because inevitably we know we are safe so long as the U.S. is right next door!!!

Safe from whom? The US military has invaded more countries than the rest of the world put together over the last 30 years.

WTF does any of your statement have to do with invading another country to take control of their oil reserves?

This thread started as a statement about a civilian being killed on behalf of his country, while making a living in a country that doesn't want him there. Defprun made some stupid remark about him being a casualty of war and now it's about Canada bashing again, because we didn't help invade Iraq.

the only countries weve invaded in the past thirty years were either from countries trying to resist communism, which is something that we aid other countries in thanks to the truman doctrine. or when there was a major terrorist attack, OR a country failing to comply with weapons agreements, all of those seem like viable reason to "inveade" another country.

just to let everyone who doesnt know know, this guy didnt die on behalf of our country. he was over there makin money for himself and got captured. its still a sad thing that he got killed but dont try to make him into some hero. missionaries die all the time but no one seems to care about that, and they were where they were (usually) to help others out. anyways my point was just that it wasnt like this guy was a military person or something.

My point was that the only reason that he died was that he was an american. They chose anyone, as long as he represented the US. it was symbolism only.
