"Johnson was seized on June 12, the same day that Islamic militants shot and killed Kenneth Scroggs of Laconia, N.H., in his garage in Riyadh.

Scroggs worked for Advanced Electronics Co., a Saudi firm whose Web site lists Lockheed Martin among its customers. The office number on Johnson's business card was for Advanced Electronics.

The same week as Scroggs' death, militants shot and killed another American, Robert Jacobs, and an Irish citizen in Riyadh."

First of all my deepest sympathies to the families of ANY soldiers who have lost their lives in this war.

Moving on:

It pisses me off that people are saying we need to pull out just because there have been some high profile killings of Americans. I didn't agree with our going over there, but I think that now that it's done, it needs to be finished and we as Americans (and those from other developed countries) need to be supportive. If we go home now, chaos ensues, and we just slapped every single person in our military in the face for letting the hardships and deaths they've had visited on them amount to nothing. I'm not sure that we should be enforcing democracy on the rest of the world, but now that it's started, we need to finish and not waver like a bunch of bitches. That's EXACTLY what the beheadings are meant to accomplish. Fear tactics from a fanatical few is ALL it is. We are stronger, we truly mean to make something good of this, and the American public should stop being such a bunch of fickle pussies and get behind this cause. I used to be a soldier and have quite a few friends in Iraq right now and EVERYONE has said that there are constantly thankful people coming up to them and stating their gratitude....it just doesn't make for good headlines so no one hears this. This time of turmoil will pass if we endure, but will continue if we falter. We're in a place where we can choose the outcome. Ask Germany and Japan if being destroyed/rebuilt by the US is a bad thing...funny how they are now two of the most prosperous countries in the world, and human rights are held in high regard in both places. Good things are worth fighting for... For lack of a better phrase, cowboy the **** up.

Ha! Welcome to American Democracy basket!

And I agree with Fd3BOOST when he says you can't just nuke them there are other people living their lives.. There's two sides to everything.. Those "terrorists" over there think "All those americans are the ******* same". No different from what half of you people have to say about them.

Ever since Bush has been in office I have never seen anything go smoothly or clearly for that matter (clear concise decisions or reason for action). I really can't stand your news broadcasts too, they are very biased, you aren't allowed to form your own opinion of anything, preconcieved stories are jammed down your throats (I have travelled to the US a few times for work, local news stations are VERY different from Canadian local news).

I'm not saying America sucks, It just leaves me suspicious of you're government actions as a whole. They seem very intertwined with the media, as if the media is a government tool, not a form of true communication.

And what I am explaining to you is the ONLY thing that the people overseas there have to form an opinion of you're country as a whole. Every American citizen I have met and know personally is a good person, not unlike anyone else I know. That said I don't think what the Media feeds the public about the country of America as a whole accurately reflects the real people in America.. Which unfortunately are also available to be seen overseas, rather than just plain facts. Think about it: The overproduced stories you see on the news are also seen by the eyes of the people overseas who hate America. I take the story I see with a grain of salt and say "That's American Media for you!", and let that be that. But, THEY are saying "That's Americans for you!".

What's more unfortunate is some of you citizens can't differentiate between being given a spoonfed story and just hard up facts. Just like for the people who hate Canada over this situation, you are a product of the American media. I would guess you are 'told' (in one way or another) to disown us because we didn't/don't follow suit. Remember I mentioned you're media is a government tool, not a form of communication. It's so well put together that you don't even know you aren't thinking for yourself!

American media, for the most part, is controlled by a specific religious belief based portion of the population, this is why you hear more about the Holocaust, than you do of Pearl Harbor for instance...

Everyone knows that we are trying to *help* the innocent people by fixing these countries, but the people that are ******* them up don't want us there. It's pretty simple, yet rediculously difficult. It's a lose-lose situation.. We stay, we continue to die. We leave, and everyone that we were aiding get's slaughtered. It'll be us that kills them by leaving.. They'll continue to make cowardly attacks, very small in size; But the method in which they do it will raise an uproar. 500 people die in a bombing is nowhere near as humiliating as having your head severed off on ******* television by masked coward with nothing to lose.

I'm sorry, but there is no paycheck big enough that will take me anywhere near that part of the world. The only reason my Army paycheck suffices is because A: I love my country, and right or wrong, I'll stand by my commander-in-chief's decisions. And B: My paycheck comes with a 5.56 semi-automatic lead launcher.

I wish there was an easy answer for all this, but unfortunately this is going to continue for a LONG time.

Oh, and Colin: I agree. American media is so full of holes, bullshit, and propaganda. I don't even watch it. It's half-truth, half-assumption, and 100% directed toward raising ratings. It's not about *what* the public NEEDS to know, it's about *who* can dig up the most spine twisting story. Thank god for a TS clearance.. I get the good stuff.
