Mid engined 13b
#1
I think this is a bit of a long shot, but hey!
I have a kit car with an Alfa 164 V6 & gearbox sitting in the back (this is of course transversely mounted), it's got nearly enough power, but is too heavy with a much too high C of G.
I have a 13b sitting on my garage floor begging to be fitted, trouble is I only have room to fit it sideways (as per Alfa) as the De dion axle is in the way of any conventional transaxle........Has anyone out there ever come across a transverse rotary? I'm sure mounting to a transmission is not a problem, but I think the right driveshaft is going to be really close to the inlet/exhaust manifolds....it has to be a case of getting the right transmission?
Any ideas out there....I can't cope for much longer, I have to get that rotary singing.

You can bolt a 13B to a VW Transaxle or a Porsche 5 speed. That's about as Mid Engined as it gets. I haven't seen any sideways.
Neatest trick I ever saw was a FIAT X-1/9 with a VW Transaxle and a VW Engine in the rear. It ran a very low ET.
Problem with going mid engined with the Rotary's exhaust is HOT and LOUD. In a Mid engine it's hard to get air to it and mufflers behind it. I know a guy with a 914 with a 13B and while it works... those are his complaints.

WDWflash is running a mid mounted 13Bt in his Kelmark kit car. I think he went with a supertrapp exhaust, but I think he had some trouble fitting it. He can probably give you some good advice on your project.

Yep that would be to a Porsche 5 speed or VW Transaxle via a KEP adapter. But it wouldn't be sideways.
You can also do a Rotary in a Subaru with a KEP Adapter, but again it sits normal. (facing the front of the car)
