Eh, funny how everyone wants a non-running FD. Good luck finding them, most people try not to blow them up, and the ones that are blown up and are for sale are by people who didn't take care of the car. (ie, low ballers, kids..) If its blown, you might start to wonder why? and what the rest of the car's condition is. If you own and FD and can't afford a rebuild, it kinda makes you wonder what else on the car is neglected?

I'd say find a NICE FD with good mileage... service records... and from someone who knows what they are selling. Get a compression test. Buying rebuilds for cars isn't cheap. Most of the Pettit "ported 3mm" engines run around 3500$. Thats JUST the engine. If you are not mechanically inclined, i would stray away from this car. I've been turning wrenches since i was 7. Its just a natural ability. If you don't have this ability, practice on a honda or small block chevy. Something you can get cheap and tear apart and rebuild. You will need to be able to fix minor problems as they spring up. Taking it to a mechanic is going to run your pockets as dry a 2$ ***** on prom night.

BIGTURBO... have you priced a "brand new" engine? First, you can't buy "brand new" engines, you can only buy Mazda Remans, and that from the dealership there is around 2800$. (with a core mind you...) I paid somewhere around 1600$ for all my seals, new rotor housings and all the hylamar, epoxy, and other **** needed to put the engine together. The only thing not new in my engine are my side housings and rotors. I'm also using 2mm Hurley Racing Apex Seals/springs. My engine is also ported to hell (hehe) So, my question is... why would "2Gs be considered a lot for a rebuild" if in a reman motor you only really get new seals, sometimes used housings, sometimes new housings... and such.. plus no portwork? Pineapple racings, rotorsports racing, pettit, ntech.. all charge 3000$+ for good FD engines..

9Base3. Its easy to get sponsered by mazda

Well here's the deal...My parents are not willing to spend more than 15k on a used car...And they'll be pissed If I get a used RX-7 and have to rebuild it right off the bat. If I could get one in good condition for about 15k I would have about 3k left for mods(reliability mods before power) but I dont know how long 3k would last maintaining an RX-7...Also Ill be going off to college in the fall of 2004 and will have less financial support being far from my parents and all. Yesterday I convinced my mom to take me to the Nissan dealership just to LOOK at the Nissan 350Zs. I didn't even think about buying, just wanted to see how they drove...I thought they cost at least 30k...The salesman said he could hook us up with the base 350z for around 24-25k...And man...It is quick...More torque than you can shake a stick at or even a long metal rod at...or even my...heheh...Yeah. Big dillema...RSX-S, used RX-7, 350Z...geez...

Oh yeah...My parents arent the only ones paying for the car...I've been saving for over a year for it...Over 1500 bucks saved hahaha...Plus you know...4.5GPA...And im tired of getting pieces of canary-colored paper with my name embosed on them...I think a car would be a nice "academic achievement" award

I've been saving for my FD since 5th grade, and I still don't have it. This time money or age aren't the problem, it's that I can't find "The One", I've been searching for a few months now, and the search is getting better, I think I'm close to finding her but only time will tell.

Song continues:

"Don't even listen to me yo, I'm bad for you

most of these people'll tell you I have a bad attitude."

Heh, you call a 350Z torquey...?? Why don't you go look at a Mustang! Hell if you have 30k to burn, get a Mustang Mach1 or a nice GT. Mustangs are cool also, i wouldn't mind owning either one.. or a 2003 COBRA!!!?!?!!

If you wanna go fast cheap, and have a nice car, get a mustang.

Have you ever been on a track in a mustang? And then in an fd? I would never own a mustang.

I dont mean to be a dick, but you're 16 you have no business buying an RX7. They are very high maintenance cars and require a lot of respect and maintenance.

1) Go buy a civic and beat the **** out of it learning how to drive.

2) I suggest you gain some basic automotive knowledge before you even consider buying and RX7

3) If you get an RX7 for your first car 3 things will happen, You won't respect it, it won't respect you and you'll wind up killing yourself, or worse wrecking the RX7

4) If you get an RX7 for your first car, and "3" happens and you're still alive, I'll kill you so you're dead either way.

5) Earn it and pay for it your self, by the time YOU acctually save the money that you earned to buy the car you will be ready for it. If mommy and daddy just give it to you you will have NO respect for the vehicle.

I could go on but I'm done wasting my time.

Sorry I'm breaking your ***** kid, but its for your own good, you ( and your parents) will thank me later.

Whoa RX7TRIX, thanks for the encouragement.

1. I know how to drive...Even though my first time driving stickshift was testdriving an Acura RSX Type S in December...Im proud to say I've never stalled, not even my first time driving

2. I do have a good bit of automotive knowledge...Besides just reading about engine mechanics on howstuffworks I've spent plenty of time at the local performance shop with actual mechanics...They've shown me how to pinpoint problems...Thing is...All of this is in piston-engine cars.

3. I definitely respect the RX-7. It is like a legend. Also, I have 2 racetracks within 30-45 minutes of me(ButtonWillow and Famoso) so I can get my rush off of the streets.

4. No response...

5. I sort of tried something like that...Though its pretty hard to save a lot up in a year...I've spent the last six months driving a Toyota Camry with over 150,000 miles...When my friends go to Famoso, I just go to spectate

But I know you're just trying to address my question...I came here to try to grasp what it is to own an RX-7...So far it seems too expensive for a youngun' like me.

Whoever said something about getting a Mustang because it has a lot of torque...For a japanese car, the 350z has gobs of torque especially compared to the RSX Type S. And...At driving school, the cars I drove were a V6 Camaro and a 97-98 Mustang...They drove like crap...Especially handling wise. I dont think driving school kids can push the suspension hard enough to wear it down to where the car handles like crap...To quote a friend(who owns a 2001 Mustang-not GT): "There are only two handling extremes in the Mustang: oversteer and understeer."

Listen, as I said I'm not trying to be mean. I have no doubt that you love the car and all that but the sheer mathmatics dictate that you dont know what you're getting into. 16 and a half is not an age where A) You've been alive long enough to glean the knowledge, maturity and experience required and B) Not an age where you're going to listen to anything anyone says anyway.

But I could be wrong you could be a paradox and might be totally prepared for the responsibility, etc etc. In which case I say hey, good luck. But experience flips a switch in my head that says, " I gotta warn this kid" Anyway I've done that. I did not mean to insult you, but I just get what i have to say out I dont dick around. So I can be calous at times.

And to Srce94FD I won't sell out just to sell some freakin parts. I'm not going to recommend to put a KID behind the wheel of a car that I dont think he can handle just so I can make a buck!
