Ill start off with a "Hello" to everyone...Im new to this messageboard. Okay. Now to my question. I'm 16.5 years old. I was originally going to get an Acura RSX Type S. My mom ordered an Arctic Blue one at the local dealership...Waited for 2 months so that another dealer would trade one over to here...And they sold the damn thing before we came to pick it up!!!WTF!!! So I'm pretty mad and discouraged about the whole Acura thing. So I've done a bit of research on RX-7s and am looking for one on ebay. I hear a lot of horror stories about the maintenance required for one of these cars. 'Make sure it doesn't over heat.' 'Note the boost pressure...Theres something wrong if it isn't 10-8-10 pattern.' Well...I think this would be a pretty cool car. But I would like to know exactly what I should check and what parts I should strengthen if I get the car. Are there any RX7 owners on the forums that can help me with this? Thanks...

{edit}

Oh..I've been checking stuff out regarding the 3rd gen...Figure that I should replace these things: apex seals(2mm), radiator(fluidine or SR Motorsports), water pump, air separator tank(aluminum), catalytic converter...Is there anything else that would make the engine safer??? Is anyone on this board selling a 1994 RX-7?

it sounds like he has some loot to me.......

eh, advise you not to get the car... its going to cost you a lot plus you need to research your ass off before you even begin to look for one...

replacing apex seals isn't easy.. that my friend is a rebuild... upwards of 2000$... depending how mechanically inclined you are or if you have to have a shop do it. RESEARCH before you get into this car.. you will end up spending another 10,000$ on it before you know it!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

wow 2G for a ****** rebuild!? where you research your **** at??

Hey just make sure you watch the engine temp... if the cars got 80000 miles on it and the factory engine DONT BUY IT unless you plan on spending some $$$$. Also before you buy it make sure that it's the one you want. Make sure it's everything you want. Because thinking you can just buy one and make it into the one you want could cost more $$$$.

Check for ANY leaks on the car.

Check Interior for broken stuff.

Make sure there is no wierd noises coming from the engine.

Make sure it idles at or around 800.

Check and make sure there is no smoke coming from exhaust.

Etc.

But when you get it replace the precat with a downpipe and replace the exhaust with a catback. Don't worry about apex seals... if you followed my advice the one your gonna buy isn't going to need a rebuild for a while. Stock AST isn't that bad I had to replace mine when I first got it (94 bucks at dealer) and it's lasted for umm...8 months now.

Just a few suggestions.

I would not buy an rx7 3rd gen this car is way to much for a 17 year old to be able to maintain. Finacially or otherwise.

I could have never even imagined owning something better than my 1988 1/2 Escort Pony. And that's when I was 18! Wish I was rich goddammit...
