have removed them before although with the motor out..

any tips and tricks for removal with the motor in..

id guess new studs and gaskets should be done..

wonderin which of these can be reused..

will pb blast it prior to removal..

thinkin im gonna need to drain coolant and oil prior..

 

Not really any tips, other than definately do drain coolant and oil first. I had that problem last time, I forgot to do it ahead of removal. Otherwise it is pretty straight forward, although still a pain in the ***.

 

I did not drain the oil when I did mine.....in fact the turbos and mani are still off and it hasn't leaked a drop of oil. Coolant...yeah, got to drain the coolant. I needed a torch to get mine off....the top and bottom stud on the back rotor of the exhaust mani both took the studs out of the block instead of just taking the nut off and the bottom one was so tight that I thought I was going to either strip the block or snap the stud. So a torch and some PB blaster was a definate for me. Other than that, it came of pretty easy..I am going to get some new gaskets and studs for mine as well then simply put it all back together.

 

lane change is right... you only NEED to drain the coolant. The line to the turbo are all above the oil level in the pan so only very little if any will drip out (mine had none in the lines after sitting overnight).

besides the above things, I find it easier if you take off the heat shield for the ABS. It give you some more room to get your hands down in there.

 

or u can remove the abs while youre at it.
