Tranny Install
Ok, so last night I spent about 2 hours getting my tranny back on. I eventually figured out a way to use the tools I had to lever it up to the engine. I was wondering what route you guys take when putting your tranny back on.
Keep in mind I was doing this with the car on jackstands. Another person and I could have done what took me 2 hours in 5 minutes... but figuring out my route was part of the fun/challenge.
Here's what I did:
Got the tranny under the car in the driveshaft well, this was harder than it sounds. I couldn't get the car up very far on the stands becuase my jack doesn't go very high. I had to get all four stands set up, then support the front of the car with the jack, and remove one of the front stands, so I could use the extra clearance of the wheel well to get the tranny under the car (damned large bell housings!). Then I put the stand back.
Then I figured that there was no way I was going to be able to lift the tranny over my head without any leverage. It was much easier to take it off, I just let it fall in my lap while laying down under it - the body makes a good cushion.
So after I gave up that route I used the tools at my disposal, my jack and two extra stands. I jacked up the driveshaft output end with the jack as high as I could get it under the car, and supported it with a stand. Then I managed to carefully balance the rest of the tranny up with just the jack. When I got it as high as I could I supported the other end with a stand. This gave me enough room to get under the tranny and just bench press it on with a heave-ho. There was a lot of trial and error getting the front part of the tranny up there - I had to fish around for a good second jack point so as to get enough leverage to get the tranny up, but also keep it balanced.
It was a quite exhausting ordeal, mostly because I was paranoid of dropping the damned thing.
So, how do you guys do this? I hope I don't ever need to take the tranny off again.. but if I do, I'd like to go in prepared.

I've done it with others before using a lift and that is by far the best way to go. I've also done it with the car on jack stands.
Car on four jack stands have the tranny on a hydraulic jack resting on a 4x4 block of wood. One person laying on each side under the car. One guy standing by the jack hoists it up into place while the two below slide it into the input shaft and as soon as you can start a bolt and tighten it up. Its alot of wiggling but it isnt too bad.
