Second and third gear are notchy. They don't quite grind, in that I feel one or two gear bumps as I shift into gear. I am wondering if this should be the hydraulic slave cylinder or is it more likely syncro related in that it is predominantly 2nd and third gear. If this is syncro related, how difficult is it to change these out myself. I have above average mechanical skills. I used to race bikes and have built my own motorcycle race engines in the past. I have no experience with these vehicles. Your help is appreciated. My car has only 30k original miles.

It is definitely worse when cold, but still notchy when warm.

If it was your slave cylinder, you'd know. It sounds like you may need to change your tranny fluid to something better(redline shock proof is pretty good). If it was your slave cylinder, you wouldn't be able to drive your car...I know how this feels...Mine went out and it was hell trying to "drive".
