Well, I just got the news from KD Rotary today..........OUCH!!!! One of the apex seals is bad on just 1 rotor & 1 of the turbos was eating itself. I am gonna have them fix it all.......rebuilt engine with all new parts including a rotor housing & I think new turbos, buit they may rebuild them ( I am not sure). So basically it will be a brand new car when it is all over. I am thinking about having them do some porting as well.....maybe get more hp out of the engine ......now I just gotta invent a money growing tree! I will keepyou guys updated.

No they didn't. I haven't really gotten to talk to them. I just got an email on Friday & when I got it they were closed. I am going to be asking many questions. I am also kicking around having them port the engine since I am looking at having it rebuilt anyways. Who knows - this may actually be a blessing.

Why would it apparently idle normally, and run normally to 6500 rpm with a 10-8-10 boost pattern....all with a bad apex seal and bad turbos?

with bad turbos seems it wouldnt boost normaly, and a bad apex seal would make the car run bad all the time wouldnt it?? sorry i read this but i forgot is it smoking?

Something doesn't sound right. Based on the symptoms posted, just about everyone, including two knowledgable and experienced moderators, figured it for an ignition issue of some sort. Yet KD is saying it's a bad turbo and the engine needs to be rebuilt?

No offense meant to 93RXR1 or KD, but either he wasn't accurate in describing the problem, or he needs a second opinion on the diagnosis.

I didn't give a a perfect discriptions of the symptoms....sorry. There were some details that I was missing. It did idel kinda rough, but seeing as this was a new car to me & the person that I bouht it from didn't seemed too concerned - I just missed the signs. After I made that post I got to looking around the turbos and there was oil all around them and it was smoking a little from under the hood. I the turbo seemed to be operating intermittently and when I said that I had a 10-8-10 boost patteren I did, but about 2 days after that I had a pattern that went: 10-8-6. The 2nd turbo was dying off and I just wasn't picking up on all the signs.....sorry about that guys. As for the apex seal, they didn't say it was totally gone, just had a bad compression so I still had something out of it. I have heard a bunch of good things about KD by a ton of RX7 people so I am going to trust them and how it turns out. I am still learning alot about these cars. Work with me I promise I will get better soon.

That makes more sense now, at least to me. No apologies necessary. I just wish there was a decent rotary shop near where I live.
