Reliable Rx-7?
#12
RX7's are VERY reliable. My experience has taught me, there is a difference between reliablilty and required maintenance. With that said, if you want a car that you can change the oil every 20K miles and forget about it, get a grocery getter honda.
My car has 160,000 miles and has the original turbo's that are still running strong. The original engine was overheated by the last owner and was replaced at 110K miles. I put 27,000 miles in the last 12 months as my daily driver. My car has never let me down or broke down. The things I have had to deal with, that fall under MAINTENANCE rather than reliablity are:
Radiator hoses
Radiator fans
Turbo Vaccuum hoses/Selenoids.
These are the things that crack and get rock hard after all the heat in the engine over time. You need to have them maintained, checked and replaced as necessary. A *REASONABLE* life span of the 3rd gen engine will be 100-120K if well maintained and not overheated. I took mine to a rotary shop to have all the mods installed and then I had it dyno tuned with a rotary mechanic.
just my .75 cents.
