Ernie is running solid mounts. He said they aren't really that bad.



I've heard of people cutting out the center of the stock blown mounts and stacking 2 hockey pucks inside with a hole in the middle. They have worked out fine and are a hell of alot cheaper than new stock ones or solid ones. Somebody also makes urethane ones for a little lett than stock prices.



I'm gonna try the hockey puck trick. Its a little ghetto, but if it will save me a few hundred bux then **** it. Nobody has to know.

Because of anti flex from going to a solid mount you are supposed to have better throttle response, similar to the effects of say an Engine Torque brace from Hpi. I have heard alot of good things about these and they aren't as expensive as Mazdaspeed ones:

Hey guys, IMHO you want a little bit of flex in there. Yes, I imagine throttle response would be a little quicker with solid. But, I would think that would put A LOT of stress on your other drive train components. Sport bikes have rubber dampners in the rear hubs. Reason- to take some of the shock transmitted to the chain, sprockets, etc. Drag racers will substitute solid hubs, but they have money to spend and races to win! My FD has the stock mounts, however when I replace them, I'll be looking for a polyurethane type material- stiffer, but yet SOME give. My thoughts, Tom

 

yeah you dont want solid ones, it will actually affect the handling of the car.

also a friend of mine had the knightsports engine torque brace on his fd back in the day, and it actually tore out of the body.

The Polyurethan mounts sound like a good comprimise. Any one have the pricing of these? Do you have to buy both, only one of my mounts needs replacing.

 

my friend uses hockey pucks as bump stops in his jeep. he said they work pretty well, but crack fairly easy

 

Im going with the hard rubber mounts.. I dont need the vibration that I heard they give off under power.
