the water pump will leak from the weep hole, under the pulley

So... The gaskets on the shaft go bad then? I can't really see a waterpump stopping... Unless of course a blade broke off and got wedged in there.. That would SUCK
yeah they have a seal on the shaft, and the weep hole lets the water leak before it gets to the bearings

good info.

look into the airpump, and alternator (with the belt off)

also make sure it not a turbo and you have oil in your engine

Newbern D how loud is the noise? Mine is very loud. If the noise coming from your engine was pretty loud maybe I've found the problem! Jt I have oil in my engine! If it's not the water pump bearing the only other thing it could be is a bad air pump connector coming from the engine. Anyone know where to get one of those from? Anyway great suggestions guys.

Mine sounds a little louder than a noisy belt.. not REALLY loud, but annoyingly loud. Fire the car up and listen closely to where it's coming from. If you can't tell, get a long screwdriver or a short broomstick or something, put one end to your ear and the other end to the airpump, waterpump, alternator, etc.. until you find where the noise is coming from. If you still can't tell, loosen your belts and spin the pullies (you'll have to spin the inside part of the airpump) and see which one makes noise.

UPDATE: Car is fixed!! The problem was a bad check valve in the ACV. I hope this helps someone who has a simular problem. Besides the LOUD sqealing noise from the enginebay another sign is a little smoke in the enginebay after shut off and a wondering idle. Cheers
