Hmmm. That's good I guess. Not exactly WHY the AST removal would lower temps... Considering there is now LESS coolant in your system to circulate.. And less escape for air...

But, lower temps is good. (

Yeah I would definatly go with air. Could have possibly had a small crack and it was sucking in air.

BUT HEY, like mentioned LOWER TEMPS ARE GOOD

The AST allows some coolant to bypass your radiator. All the coolant that used to run through the lines to the AST was not cooled. Now that you've eliminated it you no longer have a small hose bypassing coolant around your radiator.

I had the ast eliminated on my 93 before. Since my engine replacement, I have noticed that my mazda reman does not have the removable part of the thermostat housing, to replace with the 2nd gen part with the nipple on it. I have no way to eliminate my ast now. It sucks because I am stuck with that stock plastic ast. I have a pettit ast but It always leaks on out from under the cap. I have changed the cap 4 times and still leaks. Must be something wrong with it, although there is no noticable damage to it. Anyhow, has anyone noticed that their reman has a different thermostat housing?

Yes, the newer remanufactured engines have a one piece thermostat housing. To do the AST elimination mod you have to get the old two piece housing. I had the same problem. I had to buy a used two piece housing from a junkyard for $50.00 in order to eliminate the AST on my reman motor.
