HELP removing exhaust manifold
#1
I have removed my turbos and ported the wastegate with a dremmel but upon removal i broke a bolt in the exhaust manifold and now i need to remove the manifold so that i can extract the bolt properly
- i have removed all the bolts from the heatshield....i cannot get the heatshield off to reach the manifold bolts because the flapper attachment underneith where the TCA connect blocks the heatshield from coming off....the TCA is disconnected and not even on the car...its simply the little flap under the manifold is blocking the heatshield from moving off the bottom!
how do i do this? am i supposed to pull the flapper door out of the manifold somehow?....can i just cut the damn shield off and say F! IT?
NONE OF THIS is in the shop book

you shouldnt have to remove the flapper door to get off the manifold if your having trouble with the heatshield just cut it off, most of them are completetly toasted by now anyways after 15 years of twin turbo heat. if you wanna replace it probably just plan on getting a new one.

id like to just cut that crap off and throw it out....how detrimental will this be not having a heatshield...does it really help THAT much?

to be perfectly honest i dont think the heatshield works too well your engine compartment with the stock twins and stock hood is gonna get freakin hot regardless, i didnt notice any extra heat i took mines off but i also have the scoot hood which is completly open so thats probly why i have little engine heat. accumulation
my advice, ditch that stupid heat shield, it only gets in the way anyways, and get a vented hood.

sounds like a damn good idea....vented hoods are just EXPENSIVE...i guess ill just take the hood off

you can remove the heatshield enough to clear the lever with the actuator off..
plan on puttin that shield back in if you have no intentions on coating that mani...
it generates enough heat to be a concern for the lim...
dont scrap something just for the hell of it...
