I had a motorcycle battery which was ranked at 680CA...the stock 2nd gen battery, the full size one, is only ranked at i believe 540CA...and the motorcycle battery was a sealed optima type battery and weighed a 1/3 of the full size regular battery.

True.
I shouldn't be judging by the cover.. But most small batteries I've seen have very low cranking time durations and low amperage. But you are correct, as long as it has high amperage and reserve capacity, it should be good no matter what size. Most cases, small usually don't have as much reserve and amp.
