Fd As Your Daily Driver?

I'm thinking of getting an FD once I am able to buy a new cam for my Firebird. So, I am trying to gather as much info as I can about an FD. Since I want to have an FD as a DD.



I read someone's post on the 1st page saying something about reliability mods. What mods for an FD would be reliable?



If it changes anything, I live in CA.

One of the biggest things is being able to afford the gas. I'll drive my accord no problem and i wont even think about drivnig too much, but when i try to drive the FC on a weekly basis i really start to feel a pinch on my wallet. it gets half the mileage of the accord and needs higher octane.

But, why do they need high octane pump? Can't they run the same with 87?

I've always figured i should put 93 octane in my car because its a turbo and its slightly modded pushing more than stock boost. Most turbo cars are generally told to run 93 octane, and having a rotary i'm even more inclined to not push it and risk any sort of detonation.



Though i'm sure other forum members could answer this question in a lot more depth than me.

Every one runs 93 because it's safer.

Because the higher octane reduces the risk of pre-detonation ("pinging" in a piston engine), which is death to the seals of a rotary. Not sure about NA FCs, but with forced induction (turbos), it's important.

Oh okay. So since I am considering getting an FD I need to know if I my parents can afford the gas and insurance.

Mmmmmmm. I'm from the old school and it's a bit off topic, but I would rephrase that to read "...I need to know if I can afford the gas and insurance". You love what you suffer for.

You're right about that. But, is an FD worth the suffering than a curvy woman? Especially a woman like...Vida Guerra?
