Hi all,

My a/f meter has started to play up.

It is a homemade meter using 10 LED's indicating 0 - 1v in 0.1v steps. 3 red for lean, 4 yellow and 3 green for rich with the first green indicating 0.8v.

When first installed it worked a charm. First green lit under WOT, fluctuating yellow to red while cruising and full red under deceleration.

Now something has gone intermittently wrong. It seems to be worse when the engine is up to temperature. The meter will 'spike' while driving. Basically going from 0 - 1v at cruise and showing full rich under deceleration. WOT sometimes doesen't come out of the red.

The car 'appears' to drive OK. I haven't noticed any surging, stuttering or anything of the sort.

I suspected the O2 sensor so I put a new one in but that did not fix it.

What else can effect the a/f meter reading ?

Thanks in advance

Autometer/color'd LED A/F meter is not accurate by any means. Also, Stock O2sensors aren't accurate.

If you are looking for something you could use to tune or measure your AF ratio, you need something more professional (Innovative makes a very reasonable widebands).
