Tore apart a 13b-REW this weekend, Flywheel brake installed, Craftsman 1/2 24" breaker bar, 19mm socket and 6 ft of cheater pipe. 3 guys standing on the engine, one pulling the bar, bent the breaker bar @ 10° angle before it finally broke free. Yeah they are a little tight....

Yeah, I use a flywheel brake, and four foot spanner. I then hit the sh#t out of it with a real solid bit of five foot wood (Jarrah down here in Oz)! Levering is no good- you need a good hard shock to loosen it!



Works first time every time...

Same goes for the front bolt.

Worst case scenario:



1 Cold Chisel

1 Big hammer



Proceed to hammer the edges of the nut each in turn with the cold chisel to undo it until it comes loose.



This does work (I've had to do it a few times before I made my four foot socket spanner) but it does destroy the nut.



I still reckon the way to go is with the big-ass socket and 3/4 or 1 inch drive breaker bar (or home-made spanner). Hit it good and hard and the nut should budge. I made my spanner out of the socket and a four foot piece of 1/4 inch thick steel strip to make the arm, which you can belt with a good solid length of hardwood.



If you don't want ot look like a caveman then you can try a long piece of heavy duty pipe (just like in FD3BOOST's picture!) and bounce it to break the grip of the nut.

My e-shaft bolt is still stuck. Penetrating oil = crap. Fire = crap. 1/2" impact = crap. Breaker bar with cheater bar big enough to break 1/2" breaker bar = crap.



I am taking the block to a semi repair shop. Get the 1250 lb*ft impact on there and see if it will buzz off.

We use a HUGE impact on it. The thing is almost 3 feet long and has a 1" drive. We have the biggest compresor Home Depot makes. It takes like 2 regular compressors to operate it otherwise. I have pics of it somewhere on here. Was under a different thread, maybe about taking off flywheel. We have one person operate the impact while another one holds the flywheel with gloves. Works pretty well.

bah, ive done it twice, once in the car, and once outa the car, all you need is a 1/4th in. thick steel bar (got mine from orchard supply hardware), drill holes in it corrisponding to the holes for pressure plate mounting holes (or counterweight hole sif you have an auto or aftermarket flywheel) and bolt it on as a brace. Then get yourself a quality 1/2 in drive breaker bar (non ratcheting!) and put a thick walled pipe on it. if its out of the car, jump on the pipe, if its in the car, brace against the curb/your friend/a wall and kick the bar. i just let the pipe slide down untill it hits the ground, so i have as long of a lever as possible (car was up on ramps so it end up being a few feet) and kick the crap outa it till it comes off. Its much easier outa the car though.
